Yup. But he probably wouldn't have accepted it. Strikes me as seeking glory above £s.
    3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Are we all forgetting he took a chomp out of someone again this summer, and is still serving a ban for it.

Would have missed our first 8 league games, and who knows what we would have brought with a small amount of cash.

I know we still would have had one of the best players in the world, but there is only so many times he can **** up and be brought back like it was nothing.

We got maximum value out of him, and reinvested all the money back into the squad. Now, the value we have gotten from that is another debate. But it was the right thing to do.

Maybe in the 80's when it had loads of arcade machines.

It was the only option. We'd clearly agreed to it well in advance (subject to the correct fee etc.) when he signed his most recent deal.

Disagree. Would rather we kept him and signed one more quality player such as Di Maria or Sanchez (we would have improved our chances of signing them also) and we would have coped fine.

I think he wanted London as well but he'd have been the best replacement for Suarez imo.

I was watching last years Real Barca game and he scored a sublime chip to put Barca two up.

Bit pie in the sky though I think. Plus our attack wasn't the problem last year.

We needed to strengthen at the back (debatable if we have) Plus, there is the stumbling block that I doubt Di Maria would have wanted to come here regardless. Sanchez wanted London too.

I think if we kept Suarez we could have attracted the likes of Di Maria. We will never know now, but any player could see this would have been a great team to sign for.

You are in dreamland here Tee. He was always going to go this Summer, that's become clear. It was pre-agreed.

Even if we'd kept him there's ZERO chance we'd have been able to splash £60m (plus £200k a week wages) on another player.

                          Naive to think otherwise.

Apparently we offered him exactly what Arsenal offered; it was his missus that wanted to live in London.

Shows how utterly inept we are to know this in advance, and be unable to secure a replacement, despite having both time and money.

Money talks. To think otherwise is also very naive. Yes it is clear his desire was to move to Spain but if we showed the intent, both financially and in our ambitions (with the players we signed) he would have accepted it and stayed IMO.

And totally agree with Charly, if we knew so clearly that he was going, the fact we replaced him with 1 week left in the transfer window is at best utterly amateur.
