      My point being that if they didn't recognise his retirement then they'd pick him right? Surely not picking him is an acknowledgement of his international status?

        Presumably they tried to pick him for the provisonal squad and he didn't go?

          The mad thing with this is that they are burning bridges with these players and will never convince them to come out of retirement and if you were considering declaring for Cameroon this would be a big red flag.

          It just seems really vindictive.

            Just stupid PR for Cameroon, AFCON & FIFA here...LFC are a bigger brand than all of these so their sponsors will be horrified to see this going on & their own brand being associated with this in any which way!

              My thoughts as well, Matip was born in Germany but opted for Cameroon, other players in a similar position might think twice now.

                      They will delay a decision and then say they are investigating the issue

                      They will drag this out until the end of the tournament (or Cameroons involvement)

                      Then they will come out and say "its alright he can play now so we dont need to investigate further"
