This is bull**** from FIFA, the rules should be set up such that a player is allowed to play unless FIFA inform the club that he isn't there should be no way that retrospective action can be taken against a club playing their own player because FIFA haven't confirmed he's available.

We should seek compensation.

Surely it wouldn't be beyond the wisdom of man for FIFA to have a set process for players who wish to opt out of International football so there's clarity for all relevant parties. Then again we are talking about FIFA I suppose.

I kinda understand the argument that they want the best players to play for their countries to showcase the tournament. There is an argument that if all the star players refused to play for the countries then the competition could fold.....which ultimately for football as whole, would be a bad thing.

but you can't force players to play for their countries. There is no contracts (that I am aware off?) in place. If a player has retired from international football then that should surely be it.

But the real frustration (tho no surprise) is that the governing bodies don't seem to have a clue what the procedure is
