It was one bad performance, he's been really good for a long time with all the external noise.

He was shocking yesterday but he's been really good for most of the season; I can't imagine all the stuff going on with the contract/Madrid will be helping either.

I think with Trent we'll only really appreciate how good he actually is when/if he's not with us anymore.

I'm just hoping that after the game behind closed doors VVD just let rip on Trent. I hope a few players did. You dont choose UTD of all teams to move about the field like you dont give a ****. If you're going to stick with him for the season till he leaves, play him in smaller games. I dont want him in the big ones anymore. His performance was so disgusting that even Scholes called it pathetic.

Tbh I think he's a bit dopey, he consistently switches off and players just get around him way too easily. Dalot and Martinez absolutely destroyed him yesterday, it was so easy. He gets too tight at times plus he doesn't have the pace to get back and get himself out of sticky situations. He wasn't alone yesterday defensively, others were poor but he was by far the worst of the lot.

If you were running things we would have sold them all 18 months ago, Klopp would have probably left then before the midfield rebuild and the team would have looked a lot like current man city for any new manager. Instead we are in prime position for a rare man city dip.
It would be worse. A policy of sell with two years left on the conteact if they don't extend would've meant selling in Summer 23 in the midst of our midfield rebuild and before our new Mane/Firmino-less forward line had settled-down - and, as it would've transpired, with a nanagerial-change not far away.

It also would've meant looking to sell Mo only one year into his three year extension.

I suppose the counter argument would be that the two year rule would've meant sorting out the midfield etc would've happened earlier.

Was he ill? He looks weak and leggy.

There has been illness in the camp with Chiesa and Dom.

That's my thoughts looking at that, its dreadful, looks like someone who's totally spent and has absolutely zero energy left, he's basically given up. Like you say, looks like he has nothing left in the tank.

Reminds me of a few Rashford videos I've seen over the last year or so.

Good time to get shot then, not a good time to invest silly money in him

I’m suggesting he may have been playing though illness though!

In which case, not an attitude issue or reason to get shot.

Nah, Slot would've taken him off if he was ill. Trent was **** and Slot didn't want to take him off because we are trying to negotiate with him.

I think Slot would've mentioned it was illness when questioned about his performance. It's not the first time he's been lacking in effort either

That's not to say I don't sympathise with him. He's been played to death since his debut, I honestly think he's done as a fullback and I think Klopp knew this which is why he experimented playing him in midfield in a less energy zapping role

It’s a rubbish situation all round. The contract looms large over every game now in the minds of everyone involved.

It’s definitely poor from the club to have let it get to this. I can’t think of another club getting themselves into a similar mess with so much at stake.

Options to take him off are limited. Gomez is injured.
Bradley only back from injury and it appeared we didn't really want to have to use him as the sub only happened after Trent got booked.

Illness would be understandable although to be honest he watlzed around like this many times, especially in recent years. He is a fabulous footballer, beautiful strike of a football but he is lazy, slow and has a severe lack of positional awareness that has cost us multiple goals. Imo we have always forgiven him defensively as he's been so good going forward and he isn't providing that insane production anymore just like Robbo. The difference being even if Roboo does need upgrading, you will never see a lack of effort from him.

I have zero issues with a player having an off day or even being is bad form is understandable but lack of effort especially vs United is unforgivable. I do think he's lucky we are lacking in options there currently or height have been taken off earlier.
