    Man this thread was buried

Anyone see or hear the interview he was doing with Carragher?

Was asked about one club players and if he saw himself as one and Trent's reply was (paraphrasing here) that he did believe that when he was younger but now he does not and is taking club choices on a season by season basis.

That to me shows that he's not arrogant in thinking he'll be good enough to be here for his whole career.

To me that says that he's keeping his options open, nothing wrong with that either.

No there is nothing wrong with doing that, but from the club's pov it would mean we need him to either sign a new contract really soon or we entertain offers for him given he is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

If it is a thing that next season begins with him having 10 months left on his contract, then Bradley should be the starting RB for the season and the guy ticking down his contract can be the back up.

Salah is a bit different even though he will be entering the final 12 months of his contract come June also.

I say he is different because he is older with less time left in his career and also because we do not have someone that can come straight into the first team in place of him and the team's balance improves.

Then we have VVD who also enters the final 12 months of his contract. Like Salah he does not have many peers that can come into the team ahead of him at present and the team is no worse off, but with Quansah developing and Gomez and Konate being about (assuming on a given day both were fit) we are not as far off having a like for like replacement in terms of doing the job as we are on that right forward spot with Salah. VVD also is an older player so we have gotten his best years.

Do hope that Edwards looks at all the contracts that are running down and come the summer it is put clearly to players that they are being offered new contracts and not signing means sitting on arses for the final year as squaddies or if players do not want to sign then start listening to offers for them.

Players still want to sit on contracts and leave on frees, then they don't get much game time and they can see their big signing on fees elsewhere drop a little.

Imo he will be sold this summer if he doesn't sign a new long term deal.

Imperfect storm imo with jurgen leaving too. It might be more difficult for players like Trent to commit without knowing who the manager will be. More so for Virgil and Mo considering theor age

I’ve been saying this to mates for a while, but Trent is off IMO.

Cat and mouse. Club threatens to sell him and he'll just see out his contract, pay terms so much better for a Bosman

Is not like the majority of the clubs that could afford him are known for their stability or long term keeping of managers though.

And also not as though many , if any clubs, would be seen a a step up especially for a local man.

Only reason to leave a club like Liverpool if you are in your prime agewise is for money imo.

Maybe one could argue that Real Madrid would be a bit of an exception to that comment given how deep they go in the CL most seasons and how they are the club that probably gives a player a better chance than at most other clubs of winning the CL during a career there.

But not as though being in the mix for silverware is not a thing at Liverpool and for every "slump" or dry spell Liverpool goes through, there is usually a period of pretty amazing times to follow.

My own gut feeling is he wants guarantees about both playing position and the amount of playing time in that position.

But I also feel that Edwards being back, and him possibly in a stronger position now than his last spell with us, will see the club make another contract offer by the start of the summer (if it has not been done already) and if there is no acceptance of that then the player will be told he can look for a move or see out his contract but that replacing him within the playing pecking order kicks in straight away.

I think he'll head to Real Madrid, whether that's this summer or next for free.

If he'd have been the player he once was then id have moved heaven and earth to get him to sign a new contract.
Now there is little point having him sign a new long term contract on even bigger wages and being stuck with a player who has declined so much.
                        We should move him on.

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

TBH if he wants to try and run down his contract I would look to try and sell him this summer and encourage him to move by letting him know his final year would be spent as a squaddie otherwise.

However I disagree about him having declined. I think he still has the ability to be that world class attacking right back he was before.

My guess is that he sees himself as some sort of star midfielder and that he might want guaranatees of only being played where he wants to be played.

The problem with that is he is not a de Bruyne level player in the middle, whereas when on it as an attacking RB he is.

Play him as an attacking RB and you do not have to take from the game of other midfielders and defenders to cover for him, not any more than any other attacking full back anyway. But in the centre for us he needs the back line adjusted to suit him as well as having at least one other midfielder doing the grunt work.

Contrast that to how balanced the team looks with Bradley in it. We have natural width on the right but also rarely get caught out on that side like was happening at the start of the season with TAA on the right but inverting.

Is TAA a more talented player than most in the team? I think it is safe to say he is, but he needs to go back to using that talent in a manner that works within the team set up rather than his talent unbalancing the team a tad when he starts.

If Trent had played on Sunday, social media would have went into meltdown. I'm glad Bradley got plenty of praise because he played well, but it just goes to show that if your side of the pitch gets targeted with every attack, it's inevitable that you will get caught out at times.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

The motd analysis showed how Bradley was getting done by their winger early on, but in the second half he got tighter to the winger and snuffed him out completely.
Trent would still have been wandering around, having a little jog now and again, unaware of anyone behind him as usual

Absolutely, just like he would have rolled a huge joint in the middle of the pitch during half time, pulled Virg's shorts down at corners thinking it was hilarious, taken every set-piece, including the Brighton ones, because that's just what he does.
