Happened against Fulham. Brought on Gomez and it changed Trents role slightly.

Good point as there were moments when Gomez inverted and ended up in the centre alongside TAA.

Though we also had Endo on the pitch when that happened so possibly was meant to be Endo and Gomez making up the base of the box and TAA was roaming from one of the further forward CM spots.

Have to say that Gomez has been quite good when used as a RB this season. He seems to get the balance fairly right between inverting and just staying at RB. He does have the advantage of having great recovery pace to allow him to shuttle between positions though.

That might well be the future

That said, TAA has been very important to our results the past two games and if he can do that for a sustained run of games then he will make a better arguement for him to get a positional change.

Right now I still don't see him as being a better 90+ minute midfielder than most of our other options. He over the past two games has had better individual moments in games than most of the other midfielders but over 90 minutes the others are better all round midfielders still and by some distance imo.
I’d buy another midfielder, an actual DM and go for the Paisely vaunted:

          Buzzer - Alexis
          Cruncher - New DM
          Spreader - Trent

I’d play Dom top left and drop Diaz, the most balanced would be a 4-4-2 with Trent right, Dom left and Mc plus DM central

CJ, Gravenberch and Endo as back ups…. Elliott as a wide man and Bacejtic with no expectations. Thiago is a luxury

Buzzer, Cruncher and Spreader. Moving into porn territory are we?

Cannot argue against your set up not being balanced though with the right additions.

What type of DM were you thinking of? Someone in the mould of Ugarte?

              Caicedo

There doesn’t seem to be one available to come in and be a starter from day 1 tbh - Rodri is miles ahead of the next one. We need a good project - reading really good things about Mosquera but supposedly PSG bound

7 chances created and no goals conceded last night.

And some fans would still happily swap him for a modern day Phil Neville.

Who is the modern day Phil Neville? What poor sod has had that tag bestowed upon him?

As for TAA. His end product has taken a very nice upswing the past three games (2 goals and 2 assists) but prior to that he was on 1 assist from 12 games. Looked a bit better at times in his general play too thye past three games.

Hopefully his current run of end product sees him kicking on and continuing to rack up goals or assists.

Still very much being targeted by other teams though and still losing runners through the centre in most games. Though he does seem to be working harder.

Some of what is not working is very much on him, or so it looks from the outside looking in, as at times he just seems to wander without paying heed to where a player or players from the other team are.

                      I couldn't think of one.

I think the goals and assists have been the cherry on top of otherwise good performances, particularly that City one. Think Fulham caught everyone a bit by surprise TBH, their LB was particularly excellent against us, then scoring 5 again last night shows it maybe wasn't a fluke.

Teams will continue to target Trent in this position, but so far nobody has properly been able to fully take advantage (legally). It was a shame he got injured after that Villa game as it could have been the start of a good run of form. But he's certainly there now, so long may it continue.

TBH it is assists and then goals that we need out of him. We have enough midfielders in the team that are good and that will chip in with the odd goal or assist.

TAA needs, imo of course, to be the guy that racks up big numbers of assists to make up for what we have lost by not having him at RB (and also what we are losing by not having Robertson in the team chipping in with assists too).

We go through another run where his tally is one assist and no goals from a dozen games, then he will be under the microscope again (and rightly so imo) as we need him to justify being accommodated in the centre and end product is how he does that for me.

Can get over him being targeted and the odd lapse in concentration/positioning if he is setting up goals (or getting them himself) on a regular basis for our attackers as he has been doing of late.

As for the new Phil Neville, I would suggest that the red Mancs have more than one full back at present up to taking that title

If the league had started on that day, I believe we would also be top spot. Yet people still seem to insist that the transition is not working and we are worse off for it?

As pointed out in the video Rude Dog shared, even though Trent's numbers dropped, the team's improved massively. How much of this is down to Trent, who knows? But if Trent goes 12 games with no goals/assists and we maintain the form we've shown since he changed position, will it matter? We finished the season in title winning form, would be top now if it wasn't for Spurs decision, have best goal difference in league and best defence. Clearly something is working, even if we aren't machine like, as we have been in the past.

Would love some proper inside analysis on Trent's position, as I can see the argument on both sides and am not smart enough to understand who is right. His form now is similar to last season, more involved going forward, getting goals/assists, but is this purely confidence, or is it instruction? He was definitely much deeper earlier in the season, likewise some games he plays as a more orthodox RB, is this tactical, is it game management, is it player or manager driven? Similarly, in the analysis previously mentioned, they say Trent is now setting the tempo from midfield, is that true, has he been told to do this by Klopp?

Anyway, as long as we're winning, I'm not fussed how he is playing, but keep up current form and chances are we will.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

But surely this is down to his contribution to attacking rather than his defending
