I wonder if the Southgate thing and the resulting media pile on saying he's an insufficient defender got to him.

So now he wants to be in a position where he's judged more on his attacking attributes which he's roundly praised for, and less on the defensive side.

Said it a few times in the recent past, but it might be part of why his talks to extend his contract appeared to stop at the start of the year, and now he is heading towards having 18 or 19 months left on his current one.


Going by the quotes put up a few posts back, TAA seems to very much think he is a top tier midfielder, whilst his performances in the centre are very much not those of a top midfielder.

He does not influences games from the centre, he does not successfully break the lines on a regular basis, he does not make assists, he does not get goals, he does not cover the back line and only in his own head is he a box to box midfielder.


Wonder if his head has been turned (maybe had whispers in his ear that he could be KDB's replacement at City perhaps?) abnd he is trying to either see out his contract or let it run down to a point where the transfer fee he would ciommand is reduced and as such his signing on fee increased.

He is no longer making bg contribution's with his wing play and overlaps. He fancies himself as a new midfield dynamo, and klopp accommodating him is compromising our defence.

His wing play and contributions from the flank are not there because his ability has dropped off though, they are gone from his game because he no longer ventures wide.


Hate to say it about a Liverpool player, especially a local one, but last season and this he plays like a guy who thinks he has nowt to prove and that the team bends around him rather than him being an important part of the team.

I wouldn't read too much into recent comments either, all players think they are better than they are and feel they can do more, plus he wants to increase his chances of playing for England so of course he's going big up his abilities there. Gerrard made similar comments when playing RW, IIRC.

His contract talks are very much reminding me of those of Michael Owen as in lots of talk about renewing when there was 2.5 years left then nothing. Then talk when there was 2 years left then nothing. Now he is heading into the final 18 months of his contract.


Throw in the fact that the team as a whole often seems horribly unbalanced trying to accomodate him into the midfield role and the fact he is very slow getting back into position when we lose the ball.

Just lots of little things which probably mean nowt but to the eyes of a supporter of the club might look like something.


Still want him back playing at RB mind you, and this box formation scrapped altogether.

Trent has clearly been told years ago to change how and where he moves for Liverpool.

I don’t understand fans bemoaning how he no longer overlaps Salah wide right on the flank given that this is so obviously a consequence of him being instructed not to do so.

I’m sure if he was instructed to do so, he still could.
