He played well second half. He couldn't get close to Gordon as he would have dived and been off. You could see how much it meant when he took it to the corner.

It took until the Xhaka challenge at Easter to get that reaction last season. Hopefully this is a turning point too.We are here for a good time not a long time....

He's always going to divide opinion, attacking full backs always do, all of them get criticised for being **** defenders, which is usually exaggerated.
I'm not sure this new role really helps, I get that we want him to be some Xabi Alonso type player and I can see the motivation for that, but I feel if that is the case just play him in midfield, having this hybrid role doesn't really seem to help anyone, he's not bombing up the field and creating chances which is what he was best at it seems to require him to have more defensive responsibility which is what he gets criticised for, at the same time it seems to require others to adapt their games as well. Maybe things will improve as the season progresses when everyone gets used to it and when we are able to finish games with 11 players. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He definitely got himself together when we played 4-4-1. But it’s two errors controlling the ball in two games leading to two goals. Lovren made a couple a season and was crucified so Trent can have no complaints about the criticism he is currently receiving.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostHe played well second half. I don't mind so much if he gets caught up the pitch when we lose the ball because we're asking a lot of him. But these basic defending errors are disastrous. It looked to me like he was having a little look up to see where his next pass was going just before the ball gets to him and it goes under his foot. Very little excuse for that when he makes those kind of mistakes consistently.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostHe definitely got himself together when we played 4-4-1. For all his faults yesterday, that pass to start off the first goal took out about 6 Newcastle players and was equally as impressive as the finish. Anybody can make a mistake like he did for the Newcastle goal, but few players can make that pass.
Trent knows he got away with one yesterday, so hopefully this motivates him to kick on and get back to the form he showed at the end of last season.
Definitely think the pressure is getting to him this season, as soon as he read I tipped him for POTY, his head went.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Not sure he got away with one. He was fouled before the first booking. However, with the dutchy passing the armbånd to the right hand side. He did a captains job. He knew he was being targeted to get him another yellow card, but he didnt rise to the bait. I meant in the sense that he gave a goal away and the early booking meant he couldn't tackle for 90% of the game, but we still came away with the 3 points.Originally posted by Assassin;3864256Not sure he got away with one. If we'd lost that game, the amount of abuse Trent would have received would have been ridiculous, so I think he'll be more relieved than anyone that Nunez came on and did what he did.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He was a very relieved young man at full time.

He was a lucky boy indeed.
The simple fact is he has in two games running made errors that led to goals being scored against us.
Playing well for some of a game is worthless if you are the one giving the other team a big leg up and when you keep doing the same things over and over that other teams are targetting you for.
He was also lucky that guys like Szoboszlai dug in and showed the sort of grit one would have expected to have been seen from a local lad. Though Szoboszlai has been that sort of player for all his time at Leipzig too. He fights to thye final whistle game after game.
Think both him and VVD owe Alisson and Nunez in particular a huge thanks for bailing their arses out of it.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
