In Xabis 343 formation, then it is possible that he plays central midfield maybe next to MacAllister.

I wonder if we were offered mega bucks from someone like Real Madrid would the club sell him. Lets say they were able to sell both Trent and Mo for +200m and give that to the new manager......
I think you're right there - is this what an Alonso first XI would look like?

    Jota - Nunez - Salah

Szoboszlai - Mac Allister - Jones - TAA

    Gomez - VVD - Konate

    Alisson

That's assuming Alonso would use the same formation at Liverpool that he does at Leverkusen though.

Look at Klopp he used different formations at Dortmund to what he did at Mainz and he changed his favoured formations again after he moved to us.

You would also assume Alonso's formation had been developed to get results against German teams using the players he has available.

Id be disappointed if Alonso came here and tried to implement his existing formation/tactics in a different league with different players

Trent wasn't reason we got beat yesterday, the whole team including the manager needs to take ownership of that.
I wasn't trying to have a go at Trent, my feeling was that when he was out and we went to a more traditional back four setup the side felt more balanced. We had width in attack down that side and felt less vulnerable defensively, obviously different games and different opponents etc, but when he came back we went back to the hybrid role and IMO lost that balance (again perhaps there are mitigating circumstances, lack off fitness, other players being out etc).

I am not having a go at Trent per se but him and the role really go together (we developed this role and way of playing for him) so it is difficult to separate the two. The hybrid system has worked well at times this season but there have also been IMO times where it really hasn't. I think the balance when Trent was out worked well, but I can understand the motivation for wanting to get Trent into areas where we feel that he can greater influence the game.

What I hadn't raised is the nature of the role beyond this season when a new manager comes in, but that is a very valid point. It seems very unlikely that a new manager comes in and adopts the same system (inc the hybrid role), so even if we stick with it this season it leaves a question for next year which is what role does Trent play in the side? - If he plays the hybrid role for the rest of the season it will be over a year since he played as a 'proper RB' and he will never really have played as an out and out midfielder for us. So when the new manager comes in what does he consider him as?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If he tried to go like for like, it would be a surprise I think. But if he comes he may well try a variation of it to utilise the different type of players we have.

Bit like how Klopp and Tuchel (more so prior to this season and the final third of last season) have tended to set their teams up using very similar formations and with similar triggers for pressing etc but Klopp uses those tactics in an offensive manner wheras Tuchel tends to use them in a more defensive safety first manner. Just a variation on more or less the same set up and tactics.

Have a suspicion that you could take the players from a Klopp team and drop them into a Tuchel team and they would understand their roles almost immediately such is the similarity in how both managers set up teams.

At times ten yards further up or further back is the difference between a Klopp team and a Tuchel team. Or maybe another way to look at it is the main footballing difference between one and the other is the courage to go all in with the set up.

Our bench will be a bit weaker then.

Ffs… if they’re saying now that he’ll miss the cup final, nearly 2 weeks ahead of it, I’d be doubtful that he’ll be back in time for the city game, 2 weeks after that… or best case is he’d be just back in time for it, in which case, would we want to play him?? Bradley has looked great in the few games he’s played, but it’s a big ask, for him to come in and replace Trent over an extended period.

This is 3 times in the last month where players have come back from injury too early and went straight back out- Trent, szobo and Thiago… wtf is the medical department doing? Let’s hope they were more on the ball with Salah’s injury
                  I don't tip

We also have a very much bang in form Gomez to play there.

I doubt anyone actually said that.

What have we got to lose more like.
