He is an excellent attacking right back, one who imo will get even better going forward and defensively with more experience.

Put him in a system that still allows him to get forward ( say with three CBs or with two DMs ahead of two CBs) and suddenly a lot of what is seen as his mistakes would dry up or be snuffed out by the defesive players.

Right now and for chunk of the tail end of last season, we are playing with a very high offensive minded high line, one that will expose any lack of mobility/ability to anticipate in our team, and we have that lack of mobility right now in the middle through injuries and aging players.

My gut feeling is that when we add to our midfield a lot of the runs getting through now will start getting blocked again.

For me TAA is a better RB, in defensive terms, than he is given credit for. He is just used in such an offensive manner and also used to playing so much in that manner that when the unit as a whole (and I include him in this) is in anyway below the stupidly high level that is our baseline, that runs/moves/errors etc that impact other "lesser" or simply good teams start to occur against us too.

Am convinced we are two CMs (be it two new guys or one new guy and an injury free run, yeah I know I know, from Thiago) away from the team gelling again into an absolute crushing machine that goes on a long winning streak.

I don’t mean to be a smart arse but we have an output merchant at RB who is redefining the role. How we play can expose him from time to time but he’s an all time 11 player at RB

I really don’t get why people want to shunt him into midfield

The list of RCMs who I think would be better than TAA at RCM is a long one and am sure pretty much anyone here could rattle off a number of RCMs they would have in the middle over Trent.

But make a list of RBs, especially ones who can or might be able to bring what he does, better than him and it becomes very difficult to compose such a list.

Don't know about anyone else but I can only think of one player in the game that I would consider of maybe being capable playing RB for us in the manner we use that position, and it would be a maybe. That's how good I think TAA is at what he does from the RB slot.

What we really need to do is get better at protecting the space TAA 'leaves behind'. Once that was done by one of the midfielder but since the beginning of last season it has more usually been the right-sided central defender, and that is proving problematic at the moment.

Plus we've also broke loads of defensive records with him playing RB. Bizarre that people keep wanting to play him in midfield, bit like when they wanted Kuyt to play RB.

I think everyone was better 2nd half actually & him & Robbo being subbed was with the Ev & Napoli in mind.

He's not getting as high up in the wide areas as much and the amount of times he plays these hit and hope low percentage balls he tries are quite incredible. He has one of the best strikes of a football I've ever seen but he's been way off his best in that department. Defensively he was never amazing but we forgive him because of what he gives us in production. For me, he looks so sluggish in general. No idea what has gone on with the best fullback in the world.

He just had a bad game relative to his ridiculously high standards. Happens to everyone.

Another one. Played well against Bournemouth because they were utterly toothless, but that was the recent exception to a number of poor games, by anyone’s standards.

Yeah love Trent but he's been way off his best, even at latter part of last season. He's a worldie but having a dip in form. Vs Everton hopefully is one he ll be right up for but Gordon is going to run the life out of him.

Football looked like it came so natural to him, He looks like he isn;t enjoying football and not even arsed in rectify mistakes.

This hot shot Scotch fullback we signed cant come in soon enough.

Trent looks like he just doesn't give a **** half the time.

i have got to agree with this...he really does need competition in that spot... more often than not, in the past half year of so, the low determination in defence is glaringly obvious... especially when he is in the same zones where the ball is already in...really need the RB version of Timi
