Can’t remember a bigger pile-on than what Trent is getting at the moment.

I’m not justifying his performance as it was crap but you’d think he’d scored two OGs from the reaction he’s getting. Obviously the ongoing contract situation is a big part of this though.

The entire team was ****e defensively yesterday, completely asleep for the first goal. Trent’s lack of effort contributed but others weren’t much better. Up front we were sloppy, Jones in particular was almost as bad as Trent but nothing much about his poor performance in the post mortem - it’s all on Trent apparently.

      Yeah 100%.

It’s mainly about the contract, I think him playing **** has just allowed people to vent. Outwith yesterday i think he has been really good this season.

Jones in fairness was terrible and no doubts the contract saga with Trent has put a bit more of a spotlight on him but the 'pile on' which imo is simply relevant criticism is mostly for attitude and lack of effort, not lack of ability or simply having a bad game. Imo fans getting pissed off about a player been off form or playing poorly but forgive it but lack of effort is the very bare minimum a footballer can do. Add that to it being against our bitter rivals in a huge game at Anfield.

Imo we have always forgiven him defensively as he's been so good going forward and he isn't providing that insane production anymore just like Robbo. The difference being even if Roboo does need upgrading, you will never see a lack of effort from him.

I have zero issues with a player having an off day or even being is bad form is understandable but lack of effort especially vs United is unforgivable. I do think he's lucky we are lacking in options there currently or height have been taken off earlier.
He has been lacking at applying himself defensively at times over the years. Though I still think issues with his defensive capabilities have been overblown at times and he has been better this season (not including yesterday). Thanks to a less contrived role and playing in a team with a better defensive structure.

I did think he was being feckless watching yesterday, but then seeing that video, he just didn’t look physically right. And whatever happens with his future, I can’t get my head around him just not being invested in applying himself yesterday given the opposition and the chance to extend our lead. And if he does want off to Madrid, surely the ideal way he’d want to go is to sign off with another PL title?

But maybe I’m giving him too much benefit of the doubt because I just can’t accept that he would willingly put in such a pathetic performance in a game of that standing.

It's hard to know mate, the whole thing with the 3 lads is really distracting and needs to be boxed off either way, so focus is purely on LFC doing everything they can to win. What an opportunity we have this season putting ourselves in pole position and imo as a LFC fan it's hard not to think ahead of what could be domestically and beyond. That creates a nervousness and things like the contract ****e are just huge unnecessary distractions for the team.

If Trent was ill that's fair enough, it happens and Slot keeping him on because Gomez is out and we are nursing Bradley back, was frustrating but also understandable. Also, it's tricky for slot if he whips him at half time, then media frenzy. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

For me, bad form or having a bad game happen, annoying but inevitable for everyone. Not trying and showing a bad attitude especially when you are possibly off to Madrid, that's going to piss fans off. Again, if he was ill then fair enough

I posted something similar earlier, the problem is largely around supposed move to Madrid and potential significant increase in wages to £300k, it's not a good time to have a bad game. The situation with VVD and Salah is similar contract wise but they have been putting in good performances week in week out, whereas Trent's form has been more patchy (he has in general been better this season than last). The talk of him wanting the captaincy long term (whether true or not) hasn't helped when his performance level dropped and he didn't look to be putting in alot of effort. When talking about £300k a week and a potential captain that's not a great performance or look and fans will naturally be critical.

To a certain extent I can see that this might have got to him. He is a local lad and has probably had more criticism from our fans (as well as pundits and ex players) in the last week than he has probably had in his career, it's alot of baggage to deal with, I can see how it might have had an impact on his performance, the problem is that after that performance the effect will snowball. IMO he needs to be taken out of the firing line for the next couple of cup games to try and get his head straight and ideally his future sorted out
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Regardless if he stays, he isn't captain material imo.

I questioned that previously as well.

I really hope the asking for the captaincy thing isn't true, because to my mind that should always be something that is given not asked for. IMO asking to be captain doesn't sit right. Obviously it is fine to aspire to captain the side and even say that in interviews but asking or demanding it is the wrong attitude IMO. I really hope all that was just papertalk BS.

He's not really a decent defender either, It's only his passing and occasional assists which give him greater exposure!

Disagree. He’s a very decent defender, when he applies himself.

It doesn’t come as naturally to him as the creative side though.

And he was applying himself quite a lot this season, the **** show yesterday coinciding with the Madrid stuff just adds to the narrative
