I’d like to think our approach is more along the lines of “there’s no point us putting in a bid for you if you don’t want to come to us so how would you feel about playing for us?” Avoids situations like Caicedo and Lavia. Possibly also Zubimendi but I can’t remember if his club agreed a fee with us or we just met his buyout.Never knowingly optimistic

Right now we seem to be heading into a mixture of club transfers and free agents, which is really ****. Imagine if we bought Wirtz for 150 million euros, only for Real Madrid to tap him up to sign him for free when he's 27.
That would mean the player stayed with us for the full length of the contract we offered him.
As fans it might seem wrong. but in that scenario the club honoured the contract it gave the player and the player would have honoured the contract he accepted.
Think it is as simple as some players wil get their heads turned whilst some players are very happy where they are and want to stay longer.
Without a player wanting to move, Real Madrid (or any other club) could not force a move/free transfer.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I get that understanding but we could've triggered it too if we wanted to. However, should they get in a bidding war with us and be able to pay £80m to secure him then it'll be much more likely because of itOriginally posted by billd View Post
Reports now saying that Huijsen's release clause at £50m has been triggered by Madrid. They can do this because they have saved £70m on TAA. So now we have been turned over by him on two fronts.

If he has a release clause, then why would there be a bidding war.Originally posted by Norbs View PostI get that understanding but we could've triggered it too if we wanted to. He's not all that anyway. Yet.

I think the higher ups knew long long before he came out with his statement that he was going....Originally posted by Scratch View PostGiven how far along the Frimpong transfer seems to be, were we planning on bringing him in no matter what Trent did, do we reckon?
I believe in Michael Edwards...What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

for the wages maybe, but once the clause is triggered, the selling club just has to see what happens. they can offer him a new contract without a clause in it, but the sell clause doesn't change. every club in the world could trigger it at once. going over the clause is just throwing money away, the club can't reject your proposal if it's met.Originally posted by Norbs View PostOnce triggered, can no other team put in a better offer?dave of mutilation

I guess they could offer the club more, but it would be nuts as they can't refuse offers that meet the release clause, it would be immaterial who they preferred to sell to, it's up to the player.Originally posted by Norbs View PostOnce triggered, can no other team put in a better offer?Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years
