This explains the timing of the announcement, so Madrid can negotiate an early release...

Seemingly they are offering something like 1m euros, it's not so much about the money but might be better trying to get some nominal fee and an agreement that they have to pay a huge fee if they come after any of our players in the next x years likewe supposedly did with Barcelona in the Coutinho deal or some first refusals on some of their players

      Trent Alexander-Arnold

****ed off when McManaman did this to us and feel the same way about Trent. That being said, we won trophies with him and we don't own him. He can leave if he wants to but don't sell us this crap about it being a tough decision, etc. He's the past now. Wish him well, but not at our expense. Onwards and upwards!

We could drop him off at the airport on the way around, two birds, one stone.

I'm sure Edwards and Co will be very much up for playing hardball when it comes to negotiating an early release.

Given the choice, I'd rather look bad than look like a pussy tbh - but that's just me.
We always get a good deal from them. Perhaps we can sign Antonio Nunez' son... I think his name is ... Darwin?

so they are basically offering to reimburse us for his salary? would rather we paid him till end of contract & tell em to **** off

Totally agree that there won't be any effort on his part to perform, so I'd love us to say "ok you take him now and give us £1million". We save £800k on his wages too, deny him the fond farewell that he doesn't deserve after making this choice

Then I hope the £1million is given to a Liverpool homeless charity to set up a community project. Club wins in all directions then

He would be here for the parade even if Real get him early. They want him in June rather than the 1st July and the parade is on the 26th May.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

So what happens if Trent gets injured before he signs his contract with Madrid and his contract expires with us? He will be in limbo, so it's all on himself to get it right.
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

That’s easy to fix, just make the purchase at midnight on Sunday so he isn’t a Liverpool player on Monday.

I like Norbs idea as a **** you to Madrid (& to a lesser extent Trent) if we can’t get any more out of them, but I’d much rather play him every game to the end of the season and then force him to sit on a beach until 1st July if Madrid are unwilling to compensate us for his early release.
We are here for a good time not a long time....

He will have signed a pre-contract agreement before the announcement was made, my understanding is that this is effectively meaning his contract with Madrid is secured and signed.

I don't regard Trent as a traitor or anything like that, but surely he won't be 100% committed to the tackle in these last few games. (I know it sometimes feels like he isn't in normal times either, but you know what I mean.)

Unpopular opinion but as much as people don't like what he's done in the way he's leaving he has played his part in winning the title so deserves to be in the parade, it feels a bit vindictive to say he shouldn't be a part of that, and we as a club are better than that. It's also not just about him, whether we as fans like it or not presumably some of his team mates will still be friends with him after he leaves an will also want him there.

Don't get me wrong I am pissed off about it but we have been through this before with better players, my feeling is the club will move on and he will probably be the one who regrets it. Show him what he'll be missing by leaving, no matter how much he wins or how much money he makes in Madrid it won't be the same.

There’s nothing really on the line in these last few games, so you just as easily suspect any of the players to go into preservation mode. Everyone wants to be fit for preseason/next season, whether they’re going to a new club or not.

Some players have stuff to play for, Salah wants the record and a few players are probably playing for their futures
