Hearing Wright and Owen talk about the booing was fairly interesting. Wright kept going on how it was absolutely disgusting, digging the knife in as much as he could saying fans dont do that etc. He forgets how arsenal fans would boo Kolo non stop, and he only left them because his contract wouldnt get extended. Nice memory Ian you wank!

Owen said he was disappointed but not surprised at the booking since he and mcmanaman went through the same thing. Kept saying how it devastated him and he was in tears at the time and expects trent to be in the same state. He touched on how sometimes footballers want to experience something new and dont want to regret never having tried it. Trents won everything, been with us for a very long time, and if he wants to try something out before his limited time in football is up then why not. But it'll probably affect him for the rest of his career how he was treated and will probably be treated in future since owen claims he still cant get over how people think of him etc.

What he still doesnt understand is not that he or trent are leaving. But its real madrid. Its winding down your contract to try and leave on a free. Its stringing the fans till almost the last day. And its being a local lad and doing all of the above. Thats what the booing is about. Its not rocket science. If you do something like that then past experiences of other players should pretty much tell you your name is mud forever more and you've tarnished your reputation. If you think the experience and money is worth that then cool. But dont sulk about it later like its some huge injustice.

As much as we have been drawn against them largely the only impact he would have on us is when we play against them,if a player moves to another PL team who are a title rival the players impact affects the other teams performance every week. Even with the new CL league format it is unlikely to have much of an impact on us.

I think there is a dislike or even hatred of Madrid from some quarters due to the 2 finals, injury to Salah in the first one and how lucky they were in the 2nd. But I wouldn't really call it a rivalry.

I don't like what Trent has done, I have alot of issues with not just leaving on a free but other things in the way he has gone about things but we as club don't boo those representing us if you think back to Hodgson, we chanted 'Hodgson for England' rather than 'Hodgson out' because that's not who we are. In booing Trent we have let ourselves down
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I also think as supporters of one of the most successful clubs in world football we find ourselves in a fairly privileged position. This sort of thing doesn’t often happen often to us, in fact we exploit the rule more often than it works against us. Other clubs throughout football have this happen all the time. It’s really getting into the core tribal aspects of football ‘one of us’ or not. The profile and then the fact that we get nothing is what makes it feel exceptional. Coutinho was a good barometer for Trent - we got £140m for him and he was hated.

I’m pretty fascinated to see what the reaction will be when he picks up his medal.

He lined his pockets, he can take the consequences. Sad to have ended that way mind you.

Don't think we've ever set-up a free transfer? We've always paid a pretty fair transfer fee? Mac Allister was running out of contract and extended with a clause so Brighton would receive something, that's far more common than players setting up to screw their clubs. They don't have to be homegrown to pay back to their clubs.

Coutinho got heat for the way he faked injury and refused to play for us, that was also a **** thing to do. But his departure allowed us to strengthen, Trent's departue is the opposite and I reckon that he's burnt all his bridges with Liverpool supporters, I don't want him on for another minute tbh.
            * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Joel Matip, James Milner and Gary McAllister are 3 that spring to mind. We've had players leave on a free too, and they get a warm welcome, Adam Lallana comes to mind. But we didn't tap up a year before the end of the contract, that's what is key to TAA's

I'd be inclined to knock back Madrid's 'offer' to buy TAA prior to his contract expiring / Mickey Mouse Club World Championship.

Let it expire June 30th? and he can join them on a free intended after that date.

He took us to zero transfer fee. Now he can wait until that date.

Thats the other thing. He's getting an absolute packet in signing on fees for him and his prick of an agent. But his beloved Reds get zilch.

                    Yeah poor Trent....my ass.

Don't think people quite get that its winding your contract down so you can leave on a free is what has pissed people off the most. It's not leaving, that hurts, sure, but it happens and is understandable for someone to want new challenges etc. It's doing it the way he's done it, 100% manufactured and ****ing the club over in doing so that is what's turned the fanbase against him.

He's a selfish prick and has ruined his legacy.

100%, i can see both sides. If we were to play hard ball it may bite us when we try and bid for their dregs. But **** that and **** them (and him).

I don’t think Slot should play him again, not bothered about the final appearance, he is not entitled to any kind of send off. It pisses me off that first the media are telling fans how they should feel, now trying to turn fans against each other. This is all Trent’s doing, don’t let him now stain what should be an almighty party as a final insult. He’s gone, there is absolutely nothing to gain from allowing this to happen again. I was a kind of hoping he would get injured towards the end yesterday. We don’t need this.

I absolutely do understand why there's a lot of negative sentiment towards him, and he should not expect anything else, although in sure he was shocked at the reaction, but I am surprised by the booing. The largely self congratulatory way LFC fans view themselves as a fan base made me think that the supporters wouldn't want to be seen as the type who would boo a local player who's contributed to success. It went against how I thought Liverpool fans viewed themselves. It does kind of dent the whole 'big family' sentiment that even the club hints at at times, and it makes the parade a bit awkward and probably offended his friends in the squad, which isn't ideal.

It's respecting Trent's wishes and allowing him to leave on a free when his contract expires

I don't think such exceptionalism is limited to Liverpool and it's fan base.

Spend even a few brief moments browsing rival teams social media offerings and you'll see it's fairly prevalent amongst their fan bases. In my experience it seems that the bigger the club the more amplified the self aggrandising proclamations from the fan base are.

And it's not limited football clubs for example same accusation can be levelled against people from certain cities up and down the country.
