He had to announce he was leaving at some point if he wanted a goodbye which presumably he did (not sure if his view will have changed since the weekend). I think he will go on the bus tour but not sure how much he will enjoy it, which having not got to do one for the last league title is a shame for him, but like many of us I imagine I am finding it hard to have much sympathy for him...The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Not telling anyone how to feel, but personally I think we're shooting ourselves in the foot as fans by booing Trent.
This is our first title with fans in the stadium in 35 years.
Every game in this run in should be a party and celebration.
Everyone says that no one player is bigger than club.
If that's the really the case, then why would we let Trent's decision to go overpower what the team have achieved and our enjoyment of it, as that's what happened yesterday..

It’s mad. He could have been a lifetime legend here. He’s thrown all of that out the window, for what, to just be another player to pass through Madrid for 3/4 seasons and will be forgotten about. All for dollar, which he would have never being short of by all accounts. He wanted to experience something different, f’in hell lad, the worlds at your oyster when you retire… and if he really really thinks he’s in with a chance at a ballon d’or then he’s completely delusional. I really can’t fathom it. If it wasn’t for his brother I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d done a Gerrardesque u turn.Last edited by kingfunk; 12-05-25, 01:49 PM.

Conversely, there aren't many disincentives to taking the approach that Trent has taken in a system where good players hold the cards and clubs (and ultimately fans) are held to ransom. Maybe this public disapproval is the only thing that can put some degree of constraint on player power/greed so maybe the boos were really a symbol of the working man's disdain for the greed of the wealthy. Any good socialist has a responsibility to boo him off the park.Originally posted by Mark79 View PostNot telling anyone how to feel, but personally I think we're shooting ourselves in the foot as fans by booing Trent.

Yip, needs some perspective, fans we’re booing him, they were making a boo noise at him… yet some go on like he was getting literal pelter’s from the crowd. Quicker all this nonsense is over the better.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostConversely, there aren't many disincentives to taking the approach that Trent has taken in a system where good players hold the cards and clubs (and ultimately fans) are held to ransom. Yeah poor Trent....my ass.
Don't think people quite get that its winding your contract down so you can leave on a free is what has pissed people off the most. It's not leaving, that hurts, sure, but it happens and is understandable for someone to want new challenges etc. It's doing it the way he's done it, 100% manufactured and ****ing the club over in doing so that is what's turned the fanbase against him.
He's a selfish prick and has ruined his legacy.
Absolutely bang on. Trent has ****ed the club and the fans over. Selfish prick.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Nah he'll be parading around after the Palace game lapping it up. Anyway, the fans pay their money - how else are they supposed to indicate their unhappiness with a player aside from booing? Trashing their car? Besides, message has been sent, I expect it will be much more chill v Palace.Originally posted by fabinho View PostIts a proper shame whats happened, very naive of him too. I think RM have played him like a fiddle, otherwise he would've kept his decision quiet until the end of the season. They want him early though, so probably requested he do this now.
I suppose he'll be absent from the open top bus tour? What a thing to miss out on after 20 years at the club. Unbelievable really.Really?

He wants to try a different league and play for the world's biggest club. I don't see the issue. He's been slagged off endlessly by his own fans about his lack of effort and his defensive efforts. Now he says he's off he's the most important player in the team? Is this an English thing where players see out their contract and the fans get angry. It happens abroad all the time. As for singing the Gerrard song, ****ing hell he was hell bent on leaving until he had pressure applied to him. I was angry at that point as I was younger and he was going to a direct rival.
The lad didn't cost us a transfer fee. He's easily overpaid any wages and development cost in the assists alone. If he had signed a contract to enable us to obtain a fee as some fans are adamant he should have done. Who's to say Madrid would have bought him? They have form for not paying fees. It's such a simplistic way to look at things. He's a cunt he cost us a fee. Bull****.
If he had signed for City I'd have been ****ing livid. Bent club, **** fans etc.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

agree with Bob as per above....
Another perspective we could take: I mean in context of most of the younger generation these days, compared to i assume most of us on this forumn, these players are of a generation of tik tok, youtube etc. (you know where most of their attention life span is like 2 minutes max), perhaps instead of this 'percieved' ideal of staying at the club for life out of loyalty etc., they perhaps are always looking for the next thing and the next, next thing, like stepping stones (more so than the older generation) rather than stick with the mantra of 1 and done for life, such is the norm these days ...
Hence go easy on Trent, he's done what he's done for us (and overall, don't you think he's actually made us more happy than not? Put it into perspective).. let him make that choice and live with it, can't begrudge him of that...
IF he did have gone to city though, i too like Bob, would have been really pissed and really disappointed with him (from a honor and moral standpoint), not so much if he did go for the money, but to go to a tarnished (legally implicated) club that is under the microscope over the years for what they are doing to the game...

We're not city, we have to generate our own funds to survive. We sign players and make them better, we develop players and when they move on we get good fees to reinvest into the squad and that's how we compete in a totally uneven market. He has ****ed the club over for his personal financial gain. You might think that's fine and it's entitled to do it, from the outside perspective people can judge the situation like that, but inside the fan base, that perspective understandably doesn't wash. Ultimately, there's a good chance that it damages the team and it's prospects.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostHe wants to try a different league and play for the world's biggest club.
