I don’t get this “too good to be a fullback”. The position is a huge one in the modern game- particularly in an attacking side like ours.

All positions are equally important, but if for example you have someone who could play equally well at fullback or in midfield. If he is someone who offers a lot going forward - has a decent shot on him and is capable of scoring goals it might make more sense to play him further forward where he can use these attributes.Originally posted by Roboklopp View PostI don’t get this “too good to be a fullback”. Ultimately I guess it depends what you need at the time, at the moment we need him to play full back, whether that will change in future, who knows. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I've always been a bit harsh on that position but as I played there I feel I have a right to.Originally posted by Roboklopp View PostI don’t get this “too good to be a fullback”. The position is a huge one in the modern game- particularly in an attacking side like ours.
I wasn't good enough to be a winger and not big enough to be a central although I did fill in on occasion.
The position has certainly become more important but you still wouldn't have played Gerrard there all his career. Further forward and he can affect the game more and become more involved. You want your best players more involved generally.
While he's 19 though and we've two injuries at full back we can just let him gain experience where he is. There's plenty of time to see if he fits anywhere else. He certainly doesn't seem to care at the moment.
