Well his holidays finished. Just needs to take a short flight to Dubai and start against Lyon

Did any of the squad, Ramsey aside, get less game time?

Southgate doesn't rate him 1 iota. He only had him in the squad to appease the press and pundits.

Maddison, Gallagher and White. That's about it I think.

It's utterly bizarre that, when you're desperate for a goal and someone to create something out of nothing, Trent isn't even talked about as an option. They brought Sterling on to sling crosses in from the right while Trent twiddled his thumbs. What the ****?

The choice of Sterling was daft but I don’t think crosses were the focus. Walker played well at RB and I’m not convinced many managers would choose to bring Trent on in midfield rather than Grealish, Madison or another striker in the circumstances tbh.

Walker did play well but I would've gambled with TAA on for Walker after the missed pen. Not just yesterday though - the USA game was crying out for some creativity and he's just a total non-factor.

I bet Sterling is glad he made the trip back for a few minutes at the end of the game

Walker hardly crossed the half way line yesterday. So, did his 1 job he was told to do. Stop Mbappé.

More sophisticated football seems alien to Southgate. They had the better of France yesterday in midfield but his default is to nullify, nothing out of the ordinary. Possibly Trippier now is Englands understudy at right back.

Thought Walker was very good playing against an exceptional player but yeah I do think Southgate is not the man to push that group of players to the next level.

Bearing in mind some the performance of his predecessors, who do you think would both take the job and do a better job? I ask because, while I share your concern, I have no answer to my own question.

Listening just now to Klinsmann and 88% of goals in the world cup came from crosses. Southgate plays Trent the best crosser in the game for 5 minutes the whole tournament

Down on page 4, should perhaps have left it there but, my god he's dropped off. I fear for him now, comparisons with Dele Alli aren't unfair.

Looks like he needs a rest. Running around like a headless chicken, can’t read the game and delivery has fallen off a cliff. Shame the Ramsey lad is injured too… he needs serious completion for his place.

Agree with all of that. He couldn't get any where near Vinicius and so decided he wouldn't bother. He tried to play left wing for a period 2nd half
