Phillips has always given honest performances every time he has played for us but he lacks any sort of recovery pass, is not good at bring the ball out from the back and is constantly drawn into a sort of no mans land in that space on the right between the CBs and the midfield without having the pace to get back.

For me he would look excellent in a back line that sits deep and his defend at all costs style of play (which is never a bad quality for a defender to have) would look even better in such a team.
Yes and Nat was still good enough for us to place 3rd on the ladder last season where he was the main stay (and we had massive injury issues to our star CBs) and he did his job at the back no? Considering he is somewhat the 5th choice at the club, some of these comments (not particulary aimed at you Jaco, just previous overall) are really down right demeaning... he deserves a little more respect and credability in terms of what he brings to the club as an 'alternative option' to the other CBs..so what if he is one of those rough and tumble defenders, we got enough ball playing defenders such as matip, vvd and konate, so if you had to only keep between gomez and nat, i would argue with you that we should keep nat as to what he other options he offers against certain opponents/situations..sometimes i think gomez is a bit light weight and not as aggressive...we need an aggressor as a squad option at the back..for me, gomez ain't it... (and a few years ago i would not have dared say that...gomez is just too injury prone)...

Nat deserves a little bit more respect as a footballer imo.

I dont blame him. But I'm extremely sulky over this. He'll go off and become awesome, then City or chelsea will buy him and he'll improve them. Laugh now cry later when I'm proven correct!

I’m as confident as I could be that he’ll play for neither of those sides.

                Burnley would be my bet.

I think it could be a similar situation to Connor Coady where he needs games to develop and will end up being an important player for a mid table club.

Mid table is his level at best

That's what buy back clauses we're invented for.

To make sure you're never proven correct.

He is a good player. When we played the likes of West Ham and Burnley etc and we were a goal up towards the end of the game, Jurgen would bring on someone like Matip to play alongside Gomez and Virgil. Phillips is perfect for that too.

If I was manager of West Ham, Newcastle, Southampton, Wolves etc....I'd be all over this. Someone mentioned a few weeks back, he is better at a lot of what makes Harry Maguire good* (* or perceived to be good)

I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Everton fans can only dream of achieving mid table status.
