I agree with that assessment that Gomez is a far better player but Nat seems to be a more reliable back-up & is less likely to kick up a fuss if not playing regularly. Gomez knows what is happening in front of him with VVD & Matip being considered as first choice with Konate coming in to his place as the next port of call so is he gonna accept that or show the management that he's still the same imperious Joe that was first choice along with VVD.
FWIW, I don't think Joe will get back to that level after 2-3 bad injuries with a possible another one somewhere down the road trying too much to get back into the first eleven again. You & I know that once ya had a couple of bad injuries, takes a long time to get that mojo back...ask Ox, he's only starting to look good now so in the meantime, if ya have someone who's ready & reliable to step in, ya gotta utilise them.
I'll be delighted if they both stay on at the club as both great players in their own right & contribute to the team in their own way.
