It is totally over. Not a chance in hell we're losing three on the spin to that shower. Only debate for my money is will it be 5-0 or 4-0.

Hotspot has little chance of showing false positives, but the absence of a hotspot is not conclusive. The cameras they use are SD, something like 640x512. Then the image is degraded further when they scrape away at it to computer generate the negative image (what we see on the screen isn't the "native" image as we can't see that part of the spectrum). At 25 fps they can miss a lot. The broadcast cameras have a far higher resolution, and the mics sample at 44k times a second. Anyo.e who thinks hotspot can't "lie" doesn't understand the tech. Remember, these are basically the same cameras that led to Apache crews gatting Iraqi goatherders who they mistook for insurgents.
But yeah. They can't lie...

That doesnt clear anything up whatsoever though. If the ball hits the bat it will show a hot spot. The only time it wont is if its so feint that the frame rate doesnt pick it up.
How the **** the US military mowing down goat herders has anything to do with it is anyones guess. But to me thats human error or an itchy trigger finger, not the technology getting it wrong. Its not that detailed and not meant to be. It just shows heat."When a man insults my country I insult him, by taking his woman" Tony Yeboah

It doesn't show heat. It shows the effect of heat, and even then the image we see is a processed version of that. It's not the frame rate that matters in a situation like this, it's the resolution and specific circumstances such as sunlight, bat and ball speed etc. Warren Brennan, who invented the system and probably knows a little about it, reckons it's accuracy is 90-95% at best and that in testing it has failed to pick up faint edges when expected. He advocates real-time snicko be added to the system to improve it.Originally posted by Harv View PostThat doesnt clear anything up whatsoever though.
