    Update....

Just after hitting the 1000km mark. I had 12 days in Thailand doing my best to undo all of the good work Great for the legs, a much needed break.

Back from holiday and started walking again. A little different from before, as I have a habit of becoming obsessive (harder, faster, longer) with training and eventually hit the wall and just quit doing it completely. New training rules. Restrict my walking to 100km a week. Meaning when I reach the 100km mark, I stop training and go back to normal everyday walking

The first week I walked a total of 126 km. The second week 124 km and weighed in. Down 1kg, well pleased after a non stop partying holiday. 17kg off in total. Last week I walked 118 km and this week already over half my target km’s. My next weigh in is in 10 days....

Just wondering how Alex’s 6th attempt from couch sloth to 20k is going?

Finally saw the physio today and pretty stoked

Bad news is 4-6 weeks of daily exercises and stretches until I can start running.

Good news is I can give running another go eventually

She reckons no permanent damage done, minor bone spur but nothing to worry about. I asked about a brace or strapping and was told that's for old people and people who are beyond help, you do lots of exercise so you'll be fine. Lol.

I was greeted by one of the assistants and asked if I wanted help. "Yes, I need some good trainers for walking and maybe later jogging" After a few questions from him on type of terrain, injuries, etc..also, support, damping heel drop and I am thinking wtf I just want to buy some trainers! Then we got down to fitting using a glass plate and mirror to see where my feet were being loaded weight distibution wise, etc...

He then disappeared into the store room and came out with 4 suitable pairs of trainers, thired them all with differing results. Back the store room with a little more knowledge of trainers and fit 4, he appeared again behind 4 more boxers of trainers. Neither of us were fully happy with the fit. Into the store room again and out again with 3 more pairs, these were the last that would be suitable. The last pair of these trainers were absolutely perfect for my feet.

I ended up with a brand I had never heard of before, Saucony Liberty Iso2 and parted with the equivalent of £180

I was out this morning test driving them before work. What a difference a decent pair of trainers makes. Pre trainer results, my normal pace would be 6kmh and I could hold 6.6 kmh pace for an hour. Post trainer results, 11km at 7.2kmh pace. I felt more upright and balanced when walking. My feet felt comfortable all of the time, no hint of blisters or rubbing and feet not sore after walking

Well chuffed to say the least
    A little update......

Yesterday, on day 50 of the walking crusade I notched up 1000km

    The first 500km took me 31 days, averaging 16.2 km/day. The last 500km 19 days, averaging 26.6km/day

My walking speeds are up considerably and I can hold 9.6kmh for 1.5 hours. Cruising speed is now 8.5 to 9 kmh. I went all in one day last week and did 42.2km (marathon distance) in 4 hours 38 minutes. My legs were shot after that, I needed to go to the ****ter and started to lower myself on the seat, legs buckled and I collapsed onto it instead

I seem to have lost ****loads of weight, but I havent weighed myself as yet

I will keep the walking ticking over until I travel to Thailand midweek for a well earned break

They look like MBT's, so may have incorporated the 'barefoot' biomechanics with some sort of energy return system in those shoes.

I worry about record attempts like this. They did used to have pace setters in the odd league meeting. But using a laser to mark the pace and having a 'peloton' to carry you is starting to encroach on the etiquette of it being an individual sport.

Finally got back to speed walking this week

Still cant cycle, it's a bit too much, but managed 7.3k in 58m today so back to full on walking pace.

I have physio next Friday. I can't wait to run, was starting to enjoy it.

Didn't realise his race was assisted with a team of runners running in a V formation in front of him who acted as a wind shield & kept on dropping in & out....!

Anyone doing any kind of miles should always get the right fitting shoe.
They offered the run gait analysis but I declined. I am more interested in walking/power walking than jogging on
