Fat is less easy to burn, so is stored and also has uses in the body. You broadly burn fat when there are no carbs to burn, but it's hard work.

Lastly, protein is burned. If you're at that stage, you're in a desparate way as the body is effectively digesting muscle to survive.

I'm sure Matt le shark will correct me.
    No you are correct.

I'm just under 6 foot and had a medical check 2 years ago that told me I burn 1950 calories a day without any exercise. So running at a reasonable pace for 45 mins a day should allow me to maintain my weight on about 2500 calories a day - with no other significant exertion.

That's a crash diet, try aiming a bit lower in terms of weight loss per week and go for at least 2000kcal a day as Matt says below. If you kept at that you'd have no energy, be constantly starving and be grumpy as ****. As soon as you started eating normal amounts you'd pile the weight back on twice as quick as you lost it.

          Completely agree.

However, I'm sure I recall reaching 2500 kalories a day being some ****ing task. I was literally eating food non stop all day Maybe I misremember but I'm sure that was the case. Gave up in the end as it was just too expensive to keep buying so much food
I'm like you and am underweight for my height and have tried to put on weight but dont seem to be able to eat enough in the day. I used to blame it entirely on my high metabolism but have accepted that i probably dont eat enough or at the very least dont overeat.

I found Norbs' concentration camp analogy quite interesting , i reckon people just get conditioned to how much they eat and think it is normal when in fact they are probably grossly overeating.

Why does anyone need four slices of toast in the morning? At most i'd have one granary slice with marmite/chocolate spread and a couple of cups of tea and possibly a banana. Maybe if it was white bread i could eat a few.

Im gonna try calorie counting next week and see if i do in fact undereat or not.

                  1,200 calories?! Per day?!

                  Enjoy your scurvy! And death.

You'd look and feel like **** after about three days.

I hear that for losing weight for the average person, you need to just lose 200 calories per day. That's swapping a Coca Cola for a Diet Coke. So easy / simple.

Hello all, just read the last 11 pages How are you guys getting on?

I've set myself a target of jogging 12k a week, managed it two weeks so far. It's not a lot but it's a start, and setting a distance target has helped actually do it. Was **** at first but started to beat my time each time now

Started off at 14 st 7. Felt like such a fat cunt. When I left uni I was 11 stone ffs. I've filled out a bit muscle wise but I'm also fat so wanting to lose it lost 7 lbs so far

                        I'm 6'3 btw

                        Thanks for listening
