So...you're pleased about Konchesky. That's fine. How long have you wanted us to sign him for?
    Personally i am 50/50

I am pleased as he is an upgrade on Insua for next season, but saddened that we had to spend 4m on a steady eddie but than after the complete failures of our last few fullbacks at least we know this one will be distinctly OK and 'will do a job'

When you have no money its better to be safe than sorry and i am pretty sure Rafa was sorry he spent 7m on Drossena!!

And fair play if Calvoboy identified Konchesky as the solution to our left back issue
I don;t see how he can be worse than Insua though? Insua was a total liability last season*

      * this in no way endorses the signing of Konchesky, but putting my neck on the line i believe he will be better than |Insua.

Since I heard that we were in the market for a left back who would be an improvement on Insua and who was available for around £5m or less. I honestly think he's the best available option. Put it this way, I haven't heard anyone mention a viable alternative signing that I prefer to Konchesky.

In response to the logic of that question though, wanting Messi to play behind Torres in an ideal world doesn't mean I can't be happy with the Joe Cole signing.

You have. Someone must be able to say they specifically wanted Koncheskey to justify being 'happy' with the signing. If someone feels a target is better than what we have, makes sense that they would be happy about it. Maybe you should start listing a load of random players, people can say whether they would be happy to have them replace existing players and we won't have this rather silly game of 'when did you decide you wanted to sign x next transfer window.

It made no point whatsoever to ship out Insua on loan and bring in Konchesky for £4m. As has been said, Insua had potential whereas Konchesky has been consistently mediocre throughout his career. He's nearly 30 and won't improve much. He isn't even a drastic improvement on Agger, in my opinion.
            Are we winning?

He was targeted no doubt and he was a weak link, but he was comfortable in possession and created a good number of goals. He's 21...a kid....so I think he could only improve. Besides he wouldn't have been my first choice this season or last.

Obviously people have differt views of insua. I think he's shown little to suggest he'll progress to be a decent player. I also view Koncheskey as a better player. So it does make sense to me.

For what it's worth - which is precisely **** all - I would have preferred Fucile, Salcido, Monreal...I'd take any of Barca's three left backs (despite their limitations)...I could go on but I won't because it's dull and pointless.

Poulsen, Konchesky, Jones - £12m on dross IMO.

that is indeed a step up from insua last season. The lad has gone on loan as well......If he has good as many thought when he got here he will have a stormer in Italy next season where the game is slower get his form back and can come back next season all fit, fresh and raring to go.

why persist with a LB that struggled last year? would have been crazy to go into the season with the same LB's as last year.

Whats your answer then? last year we didnt really have a choice and this year would be the same?

You can't dodge the issue of wether this move gives us a better LB
I haven't "dodged it". I've said I don't think Konchesky is better than Insua - therefore doesn't, in my opinion, give us "a better LB". Is that alright with you?

But some people need stars, not just slight improvements.

He wasn't Rafa's first choice last season but he had no choice.

re this season - I would've bought someone else.

I don't think it was Roy's decision to part with him in the first place anyway. I remember one of his quotes saying he does rate the player and the man himself. So if Roy did rate him, why the insistence of shipping him out? He's not been given a chance, he's never featured under Hodgson.

Obviously, opinions will diverge on Insua, but he is 21 and hardly at an age where you could state for certain that he was going to be a flop. He had time on his side, had been capped by Argentina and has contributed in the attacking third of the field when he played last season.

He's hardly a liability and hardly the finished article at 21.

                                How lame.

Yeah, we all want Ashley Cole, Lahm or whoever
