I don't think he does. I think he's nowhere near good enough for LFC, whether we're skint or not. No-one expected Ashley Cole or Philip Lahm. A few of us expected the likes of Konchesky when we downgraded our manager, and were ridiculed for it. "He's coming to Liverpool, he won't be Fulham manager anymore!!!!!1"

We all form opinions on players in the league we watch. I've watched Konchesky for years now, and I think he's ****. Not once have I ever been close to thinking "oooh, I wish he played for us".

And all those forcing themselves to be happy about it...have you ever watched Konchesky and wished he played for us? It's funny cos as supporters we're always making suggestions as to who we could/should sign. I don't recall anyone ever proposing Konchesky. In fact, if anyone had - pre-Roy - they'd have been laughed off the forum. Yet now we have apologists trying to justify it.
That pretty much sums up my views on PK.

I wish him the best of luck but I cannot claim any excitement about signing a mediocre player he is at best.

I can only imagine how thrilled Nando may be..

I do think he'll offer an improvement over some of Insua's performances last year but it still isn't a satisfying solution to our left back issues.

Plus he's 29 years old and we've given him a four-year deal. Crazy.

The biggest problem last year with our Left Back position was being unable to protect a young fullback because of a crock (who's been given a two year deal!!!!!) who we can't rely on along with the fact we didn't have a settled left-sided midfield/forward to help protect Insua when he really got targeted and exposed.

The subsequent freezing out of the player smacks of "someone" (read Purslow) deciding that he's the scapegoat, which is balls really.

Shaggy, who did you expect btw? Left back option for under 4mil? Or do you think Insua was good enough to fight with Fabio?

Why does it have to be under £4m? We spent approximately £12m on, IMO, dross - before we even addressed the priority (a striker)...which never materialised anyway.

And besides, asking me who I expected or wanted to sign is completely pointless and irrelevant.

              Dross wtf?

I assume Roy was working to a budget that he had been set. You say you didn't expect Lahm but Koncheskey is toilet, improvement on insua or not. Surely you must have other ideas. You seem to be ranting.

Nah, I just think Konchesky is crap. Sue me. I don't think he's an improvement on Insua.

For what it's worth - which is precisely **** all - I would have preferred Fucile, Salcido, Monreal...I'd take any of Barca's three left backs (despite their limitations)...I could go on but I won't because it's dull and pointless.

Poulsen, Konchesky, Jones - £12m on dross IMO.

I find it hard to disagree with any of that, would rather have kept the youngsters and Insua.

If we'd have signed Konchesky, Poulsen and Jones under Rafa, folks would be going ballistic.

Why does everything on this forum have to boil down to black or white? You're either pro Roy or against, you were either anti-Rafa or RCDNW, you're either for stringing the owners up by their bollocks or you're an insane yank apologist....well OK, I've got some sympathy with this last point.....

I'm no apologist for anything, but yes, I'm one of those who thinks Konchesky improves the squad. I actually said in a thread last season that what I though we needed to challenge was some star performers surrounded by solid, dependable, proven premiership players, and I had the likes of Konchesky in mind when I said it. I took some stick for it at the time, and probably will now, but I stand by it.

I too have watched Konchesky a lot over his career, and have always thought of him as decent premiership defender who will not let us down. He won't be a world beater, but for £4m he will do a better job for us at full back than Insua and the permanently injured Aurelio. Hence he will improve the squad. In my opinion, it's not Konchesky that's the problem, it's the fact that we haven't bought anyone on the wing or up front at the same time, so Konchesky represents a larger proportion of our spending this window.

So I'm happy with Konchesky, am unsure about Merieles and Paulsen, and am angry that we're being starved of cash and have gone into another season with only N'Gog as backup to Torres. Is that allowed? Or does everything really have to be black or white?

New Liverpool signing Paul Konchesky has targeted silverware this season on his arrival at Anfield.

The 29-year-old left-back has signed a four-year contract with the Reds after moving from Fulham, and links up with former boss Roy Hodgson who left the Cottagers earlier in the summer.

Konchesky admits he is excited by the task ahead of him at Liverpool, and believes the club have what it takes to clinch a trophy this term.

"I'm very excited to be here. I can't wait to get started and I'm really looking forward to the challenge," he told the club's official website.

"I want to win silverware. I believe this club is capable of doing that and hopefully we can start this year.

"I know what the manager is about and he knows what I am about. I had a great time with him at Fulham for two-and-a-half years.

"He did really well for Fulham and hopefully we can have great success at Liverpool and we can achieve bigger and better things."

Konchesky was part of the Fulham side that remarkably reached the Europa League final last season, only to be eventually beaten by Atletico Madrid.

The experienced defender hopes his new side can go one better and clinch glory in the same competition this term.

                        Tradition
He added: "I am really excited by that. Liverpool have a great tradition in Europe. We got to the final with Fulham last season but hopefully we can go one step further this year and win it with Liverpool."

Konchesky also revealed that former Fulham team-mate Danny Murphy sold the exciting prospect of Liverpool to him.

Murphy spent seven years with the Reds between 1997 and 2004 and told Konchesky that he would enjoy his time on Merseyside, although the new signing admits he did not need much convincing.

"Danny spoke very highly of this club," he remarked. "He told me how well the club is run, how good it is and how special it is to play for. He told me I am going to love every minute of it.

"I have played against Liverpool at Anfield and the crowd are always fantastic towards their team and give them great support. I am looking forward to playing in front of them for Liverpool.

"You look at the background and history they have got and they are one of the most famous names in football. It also helped me with the manager being here who I know well. When Liverpool came in for me it was an easy choice."

                            Of course it's allowed.

So...you're pleased about Konchesky. That's fine. How long have you wanted us to sign him for?

Probably for as long as he's wanted insua not to play for us. You can't dodge the issue of wether this move gives us a better LB than we had as a reason for judging the transfer. This wasn't a priority position compared to a striker, but I am relatively happy with any like for like improvement.
