Andy Carroll denies that he has any desire to leave Liverpool
• Andy Hunter
guardian.co.uk, Sunday 29 January 2012 23.35 GMT
Andy Carroll has said he has no desire to leave Liverpool after the club tried to exchange him for Manchester City's Carlos Tevez only a year after his £35m arrival from Newcastle United.
Carroll, who has scored only six times for Kenny Dalglish's team since becoming Britain's most expensive footballer 12 months ago, was also linked with a return to Newcastle United earlier in the transfer window. Having produced a battling display in Saturday's FA Cup win against Manchester United, however, the 22-year-old denied he is unsettled on Merseyside or keen to leave a club where he has failed to cement a regular first-team place.
"I'm just here. I've signed a contract here and this is the team I'm playing for," Carroll said. "I love it here. All the lads are great with me in training and away from the training ground everyone has been great with me as well."
Liverpool have denied making an offer to exchange Carroll for Tevez but sources elsewhere insist an approach was made. Carroll and his representatives were unaware of the club's attempt to offload their record signing, prompting disquiet among his advisers. Despite public support for the striker from Dalglish, the interest in Tevez raises doubt about the former Newcastle player's long-term future at Anfield. He said he had no regrets over his move to Merseyside.
"Not at all. The club has been great with me and I'm enjoying it here. Winning in midweek [against Manchester City in the Carling Cup] and getting to the final and then Man U coming here, beating them and getting through, it's a great feeling."
Meanwhile a 59-year-old man from north Wales has been detained by Merseyside police in connection with an alleged racist gesture made during the fourth‑round tie at Anfield on Saturday. An image of a man making the alleged gesture was distributed on Twitter and police received a number of complaints.
A police spokeswoman said: "The man has been taken to a police station and will be questioned by officers. Merseyside Police would like to thank North Wales Police and Liverpool Football Club for their assistance with this matter."
The match commander, chief superintendent Jon Ward, said after the game: "We can confirm that specialist officers are reviewing match footage, as a result of a picture posted on Twitter. This matter is now under investigation by specialist hate-crime detectives and we are working with Liverpool Football Club to identify the man in question.
"We take all forms of offensive behaviour seriously, and we will always thoroughly investigate such claims. We cannot allow this type of behaviour to affect the enjoyment of genuine fans. We will continue with our efforts to deal with the small number of individuals who commit offences at football matches, in particular, with the continued use of football-banning orders."Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. **** it, I'm behind Andy to find some form and for Kenny to build tactics to suit his strength.
It amuses me when people say that a teams style or tactics don't suit a particular player (if they are important). Can you imagine if the military had this attitude? They'd be ****ed.
I'm sure we can come up with more than one tactic and setup for different people.

What amuses me more is the idea that our owners / management would buy a player for 35 million and not know what they were getting or getting into. Andy Carroll is potentially worth a lot more than 35, thats why the forked out for him, when you buy any player for big money especially younger players there is always a risk, they can get injured, they can sometimes not settle, the can lose form, or all 3 look at Torres.Originally posted by foresterbloke View Post**** it, I'm behind Andy to find some form and for Kenny to build tactics to suit his strength.

I think Carroll will come good, he was utterly superb against United and in the Lg anyways it does not come more testing than that, there was a huge difference in his last performance and he is getting better and better with each passing game. I think we may even benifit from him perhaps missing the boat in the summer for the Euros. With the exception of "that" Bolton performance which was shameful, I remain very confident we are strongly going in the right direction and are still far better placed to take 4th, we need to push on mid week, big big game, the lads need to dig deep and find a way to win that gameAnybody who criticizes Klopp ever is a James Blunt.
