I honestly think we have swopped dud for dud here. But in Suarez we have a diamond.
The rumours about ACs private life dont help.

It'll be a good few years before Carroll even comes close to justifying the large fee, he's not been bought as the finished product. Very inexperienced but he has shown enough with England and Newcastle to suggest he has the tools if given service.

My only worry is this; it's clearly taken him a long time to get into his stride after injuries, as a brave player who throws himself into challenges I fear he may pick up a few knocks over the course of a season. If this happens will he forever be short of fitness and therefore below par?

A solution needs to be found quickly.
I see that as likely outcome which is why I indicated we need good quality back-up striker. With his large built not only that he can pick up knocks easily but it could take him sometime to recover and get fit so we need a very good replacement to step in and be above an impact player.

He's still a young guy. He'll continue to develop - He'll be working day in, day out on his touch and his teamwork.

To be fair, he did actually make a couple of nice runs yesterday. Some good control as well. And on another day, he would have put that free header away. He lacks fitness and sharpness. He has tonnes of potential! No doubt about it, he's raw, but give it a year or two and I really think he'll develop into one of the best strikers around.

As others have said, we're crying out for a top, top winger who will consistantly deliver good crosses into the box. That has to be our number 1 priority this summer. Another attacking threat.

The slalom run in the first half was something I didn't expect for Andy. I didn't know he had those dribbling skills.

I think most of us, the players and staff share that confidence in him. Drogba was a late bloomer and I can see Carroll peaking relatively late, I think he will thrive after a proper pre-season.
              * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

But Andy Carroll is not a late bloomer. If anything he's the opposite, which is why we spent so much money on him and why other teams were willing to nearly match.

The guy has sufficient pace, good touches and the most valuable commodity of all: an eye for goal. With feet or head. (Edit: work your own joke in here about shoulders and knees). He has the necessary intelligence to understand Steve Clarke's methods, its never easy coming back from injury though. He needed the game time yesterday (glad he played than Ngog) and he'll learn some valuable lessons about returning from injuries, etc.
                One tit for another.

What rumours??? the fact he's had a couple of scraps, behave yourself, after a few games some of you are already writing him off, stop being so pathetic he wasn't fit, and we lost to a better team (yes sometimes it happens)

It was his lack of movement and work off the ball that concerned me yesterday, I do hope that is a fitness issue.

He's nowhere near fit. I'm sure he's going to be class for us but he desperately needs pre-season to get back up to speed. In fact, given the amount of time he's had out maybe a bit of game time for the U21s wont be the worst thing that could happen.

I reckon that a few games and a bit of sharpness about him and he'll be banging them in. I'll stand in the shouldn't have started yesterday corner too though
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

becuase he is such a big unit, think he needs a few games to get going and get into the flow.

I always thought that the decimal point was in the wrong place when we came to sign him. Although he has impressed me since he has been here.

Seen enough to think he will be awesome.
