It is meant to illustrate the lengths people will go to avoid a simple truth. We paid £35 MILLION QUID for Andy Carroll and ever his strongest defenders make that list of concerns.

Some say he is not the finished article. For £35 MILLION he should be.

Some say it was not our money we spent but Chelsea's. Nope it was ours. Just because someone overpaid doesn't me we had to.

Some say we are not converting enough chances. I know. If only we had a true £35 MILLION striker. We would be 6 or 7 points better off than we are now and I would say we were virtual certs for a Champions League spot.
Can't really disagree with that, and i do totally understand what Kenny means when he says AC was'nt bought for one season he was bought for long term gain, but my point would be, where we stood right then as a club...could we have spent that money more wisely...so that we would now... this season; be seeing good and effective performances and hence results because of the player/players we bought instead of AC had we done so ?

However, so long as we have money to spend in Jan to help us push on to 4th i can handle the AC thing, but it's one hell of a wad of cash, but then again, in a few years time, and if he turns out to be a great assett, it could look a shrewd move, hopefully that's they way it'll turn out.

I wonder if his wages match the 'not the finished article' / 'one for the future' billing.

Clearly they don't cause otherwise Kun would be wearing # 9 shirt.

"35m discussion" , which imo is absolutely pointless, should also take into account that he is English, the need of our new owners to invest money immediately to make the statement of intent, limited availibility of top players in January transfer window and last second buy that all contributed to his price tag, which he had no influence over whatsoever.

          It should, I agree.

Still a terrible purchase though. Completely bummed out of about £20m.

That dribble he did on the right against WBA was well worth £35m. I haven't seen Downing do that yet so he must be worth it right?

I wish we'd bought Benzema or Aguero with that money.

This need to make a statement of intent seems to me to be newspaper talk. There was no need to splash the cash. And if as you say they did so in a panic that raises serious doubts about the owners.

English or not £35m was not the relevant price for Carroll. £15m or £20m tops. Even allowing for all the factors you mention.

As for other posts that he might turn out to be fantastic and worth it. There are no signs of that whatsoever. He just doesn't even look like a footballer.

And as for fulfilling his potential so that it might seem worth it or a bargain (as some others in this thread have said). Christ how good would he have to turn out to be. £35m is top whack for an world class player. Does anyone honestly believe this guy will turn out as good as Ronaldo or Zidane? That is truly clutching at straws.

We go rudely ill-used in relation to this. And it has inflated every transfer fee we have paid since.

Seems like everybody's got a price,
I wonder how they sleep at night.
                      When the sale comes first,
                      And the truth comes second,
Just stop for a minute and
                      Smile

                      Why is everybody so serious?
                      Acting so damn mysterious?
Got your shades on your eyes
                      And your heels so high
That you can't even have a good time

Everybody look to their left (yeah)
Everybody look to their right (uh)
                      Can you feel that (yeah)
                      We're paying with love tonight

It's not about the money, money, money
We don't need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
                      Forget about the price tag

They (not we) also did the deal to sell an under performing superstar of the like you think the team needs for a record fee, He was underperforming and still is, in fact he's got worse, For Chelsea he's scoring at one in six (30-5) whereas Carroll has underperformed in our expectation to one in four (20-5)

Torres is maybe past his peak and on the slide but Andy Carroll is still a youngster with bags of promise so the exchange of players and 15m in the bank isn't so bad. There's lots to come from Andy Carroll and your obsessive ranting about him is verging on the comical, you must have an ulterior motive, WUM maybe.

Again you are linking the Torres and the Carroll buys. Why?

Just because Chelsea paid £50m didn't mean we had to spend money like a drunken sailor on shore leave.

You argument seems to be that its ok because we are not the biggest idiots in the room because there is someone even thicker than us. This does not hold water.

Why not try to be the smartest person in the room....

When talking about the player, why does his value keep getting brought up? That has no bearing on his ability. If anything the club should be analysed for its poor decision making rather than Andy. Its the same as it doesn't matter how much Torres cost Chelsea.
                              *Except Michael, who died.

I wish people would just get over his ****ing price tag, its done, the money has been spent, the best thing we all can do now is get behind the lad and encourage him and whilst the rest of the world might be getting on his back including the so caled fans of his own cities football club, the Liverpool faithful should be able to show him why we beleive our club is special otherwise we will turn into Chelsea with just a sea of cunts if we are not careful
