If Shelvey had the support that Lucas had from Rafa and a manager took time to mould him into a specific type of midfielder then I'd expect him to develop into an excellent player (not that I'm saying Rodgers hasn't given him a fair chance). Sadly I can't see that happening here as I don't think he'll get enough opportunities, so maybe it is best for both parties if he does move on.

Why I mention Lucas is that he does remind me a bit of a young Lucas in that even when he doesn't play well, there is still a certain class evident that other footballers just don't have. What he does lack maybe is Lucas' mentality and maturity.

I doubt many share my views, but then again most seem to be of the opinion that if they aren't world beaters by 20, then they are ****.

Similar to Insua. People raved about him and he was excellent when first introduced to the team. Because he didn't have the maturity or experience to sustain it through a full season, he too was put in the **** category and cast off.

With Insua it went a bit further as it seemed we had no option but to play him when he needed taking out of the firing line, and his development suffered as a result, fortunately we have been able to take Shelvey out of the side. Shelvey hasn't been the same since the sending off against Man Utd, I think that affected him mentally I think wed should have loaned him out somewhere for the second half of last season to get him playing again, but we didn't. For me he has to go out on loan this season we have a lot of people ahead of him and it looks like we could be signing more, if he is ever to make it here he has to develop some of that potential and he won't do that without regular games.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

My thing is I'm sure he can become a good player, we just have so many who he will never be better than if we are to sign HM and the young Villarreal guy. That will go with coutinho, Henderson and suso. I don't think keeping shelvey at the club will actually benefit us.

I think Shelveys main problem are the number of players who're going to be in front of him in midfield - Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, Allen and perhaps Miki (new guy) it's going to be very tough for him to get much game time at all I guess getting him out on loan would be great and all for game time but realistically is he going to come back and force himself into the first team? I'm not sure he will hence a good offer of £5M + would probably be best for all parties; we get a good transfer fee for him and he gets to go out and play football on a regular basis.

If he went to say Norwich and had a great season would it be realistic to expect a lot more than 5m? If So its probably in the best interests of the club to loan him for a year if we don't need the cash.

Also if Henderson or Allen don't get much game time next year they may want to be off, Gerrard will be a year closer to retirement to

I guess it depends if we need the cash or not, there's an argument for both scenarios I guess as he could just as well go and have a stinking season and we think we've done well getting that much for him.

Our midfield is intriguing at the moment as I'm not sure what it's going to look like for next season, the only real guarantee is Gerrard.

It's a gamble, what if he goes there and is shocking and gets a few red cards. Will be lucky to get 2 for him. 5 mil is 4 more than we paid and a good option I think.

Just sell him. He's not good enough.

I cannot see him ever being regular and given his personality and aspirations I cannot see him settling for a bench spot, not at least at this point in his career.

Tough call but I can see pro and cons for both options of selling and loaning him for a year.

                            £5 mill and a sell-on clause, I'd be happy.

Barca style buy back clause is perfect for this situation

£5m seems low given the amount paid for Charlie Adam
