It annoyes me when people say that, because that's what all players should be doing, essentially it's the minimum they should be doing.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Carlos Tevez may sue Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini for defamation of character, BBC Sport understands.

City fined Tevez four weeks wages - about £1m - for what they believe were five separate breaches of contract.

Tevez's camp believe Mancini's claim that the forward refused to play in the Champions League match against Bayern Munich could amount to defamation.

Tevez was charged by City for refusing to resume warming up with a view to playing, BBC Sport understands.

      More to follow.
      Very ugly for Man City.

Then again he was very ugly for Man United and West Ham too.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Carlos Tevez backed by PFA over four-week Manchester City fine

Carlos Tevez's four-week fine for refusing to play for Manchester City is "not justified", says the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA).

City found the striker guilty of what they say were five separate breaches of contract in a game against Bayern Munich in September.

But the PFA, which must ratify the fine, supports Tevez's claim that he did not refuse to play and says that a two-week fine is all that is allowed.

"The PFA's opinion, based on all the evidence presented, is that Carlos Tevez never refused to play for the club," said the PFA.

"This is accepted by the club in that the charge against Carlos made at the hearing was not one of refusing to play.

"As such the PFA considers that there is no justification for a fine other than up to the prescribed sanction of two weeks' wages agreed by the FA, the Premier League and PFA."

Following the incident in the Champions League last month, City launched an internal investigation which concluded that among the contractual duties breached by Tevez was one that says he has "an obligation to participate in any matches in which the player is selected to play for the club when directed by a club official".

Tevez insists he only refused to warm up and his advisors have told the BBC they believe that none of the five reasons given by City for upholding the charge of misconduct - which the club published on their website - are correct.

They have further been advised that City manager Roberto Mancini's post-match comments in Munich, where he said Tevez refused to play, could amount to defamation of character and that legal action against him could be forthcoming.

Tevez, who has 14 days to appeal to the club board against the misconduct charge, continues to insist that at no time during the Bayern Munich match was he told he was to be brought on to play, and he is understood to be considering his legal options.

So with that reasoning, if the manager tells you to warm-up, you have the right to know whether you're actually going to play and if that's the case, then you can tell him to **** off?

What a ******. ****ing hope he has a career-ending injury, the smarmy cunt, absolute ****ing ******. There's nothing in the footballing world that has got my goat so much as this has. Earns a million quid a month and behaves a total and utter cunt, full of contempt for his employers, utter ******. And the ****ing PFA back him up on it, unbelievable.

EDIT: Just imagine a player doing that at our club. Just imagine that.

I don't really see the difference between refusing to warm up and refusing to play.

Not even Woy would send a player on cold from the bench.

This Tevez stuff could be the only thing to stop them winning the league, sooner they're shot of him the better for them.

It's a terribly boring saga. I hate City and I dislike Tevez so I hope they both sue the **** out of eachother and he pisses off back to Argentina.

Just to be pedantic, didn't he already warm up? Wasn't that the point? He was ready to play, just didn't want to run up and down th eline for the sake of it. Especially if it was just Mancini being a cunt (we seem to be using that word an awful lot recently) to Tevez for the transfer request.

Had a mental image of that, if that is at all possible.

I think Gordon Taylor is one of the problems of the game in the UK.

He needs to go and the PFA modernised and regulated, at the same time they look at the FA.

He/they have undermined Man City here and made them look stupid, and by backing Tevez they've basically said its ok to do what he's done.

Its very simple, if he wants to return home and play football and its not about the money, then he pays city back what they paid for him and goes back home and plays for his local side for feck all, jumpers for goal posts and all that.

will he hell, because he's a greedy, whinging feck who is the epitome of everything thats bad about the modern game.

just seeing his face makes me angry. I think its a rare occurrence where the majority of football fans are united in their dislike of the player.

At a risk of spoiling the Tevez hating with a fact, was it not the case when this first broke that he said he refused to warm up again and that he was ready to play?

That's just semantics though on his part, I'm sure plenty of players get asked to warm up twice during games by their managers, and when you're getting paid £200k/week having a little jog on request is hardly too much to ask.

If it wasn't for the fact that he's been moaning and whining about wanting to leave for ages, despite no other club coming in with a reasonable bid for him, some people might have a bit more sympathy. As it is he just comes across as a spoilt child who, as Suarez says above, epitomises everything that's wrong with modern football.

He clearly had thrown his toys out of the pram. There's plenty of players that "warm up" on the touchline basically just watching the game and doing the odd stretch.

His refusal to shift his arse from the bench was a clear "**** you" to Mancini and to City.

I find it galling that the PFA has sided with him - they should have washed their hands of him.
