Why the **** did he play the full 90 mins when he was absolutely horrendous?! Very poor management from Kenny, very poor...

The problem for me is that Downing was clearly bought to supply Carroll, Carroll hasn't really played that much, and when Carroll doesn't play I have no idea what Downing's job is, and more to the point I don't think he knows what his job is either. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think if that was genuinely the case they would have played to together much more.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostThe problem for me is that Downing was clearly bought to supply Carroll, Carroll hasn't really played that much, and when Carroll doesn't play I have no idea what Downing's job is, and more to the point I don't think he knows what his job is either.

I don't know the stats but I would imagine that most of the time Carroll plays downing has been on the pitch. I think Downing does look as though he has a purpose when Carroll is on the pitch, when he isn't Downing looks lost IMO and has no idea what he should be doing.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostI think if that was genuinely the case they would have played to together much more.
I think had Carroll played more I think we would have seen a more confident and better Downing. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Downing is not playing much different to how he did elsewhere. He is just a very average player.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI don't know the stats but I would imagine that most of the time Carroll plays downing has been on the pitch. I have to say that despite this season I like downing. He hasnt produced in an attacking sense but hes tracked back and put in a proper shift every game. Hes not worth 20m but he is a good squad player and if we can get more output from him he could provide the balance on the left or right to an out and out attacking talent. He can do this other lads legwork and use his speed and pace to cause people problems.
But we do need another talent who literally will try and rip his fullback a new one at every.opportunity. Then playing downing makes a lot of sense.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

He's ****ing rubbish. Let's not beat around the bush. He's crap and isn't good enough to play at Anfield as an opposing player ffs.

Never have seen a player less worthy to wear our shirt"All I'll ever do is all I've ever done in any job, and that's promise to fight for my life for the supporters and the people of the city"

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't think he's crap - not in terms of footballing ability.
He's got a decent left foot, a good turn of pace and excellent close control.
On saturday Gerrard sent over a 60 yard crossfield pass and he brought the ball down and killed it stone dead even though he had an opponent only 3 yards in front of him.
Sadly he wont succeed because he doesn't have the mental toughness or self belief to play for a team like Liverpool as evidenced most weeks.
If he did I honestly think we would have a player nailed on to play on the left for 40 games a season for the next few years.
