Mascherano left beginning of last season so I dont see what he has to do with Adam frankly

Torres left in January and funnily enough our form immediately picked up as did our results

Anyway you could also draw comparisons in this manner that show a far more positive light

    Suarez vs Torres
    Adam vs Poulsen

I think we probably could have bought better individual players but I dont think that is in line with Kennys plan as its clear he wants to build a team

Adam - couldn't get into the Rangers team (Championship level in my view) before going to an actual Championship team (Blackpool) where he was in a promoted side which promptly got relegated again. They got relegated to the Championship where they belong - the fact their second best player last season has now joined us does not alter the fact that he wasn't good enough to play in a team which could last 38 games in the Premier League.

Andy Carroll - great player. A lot of the idiots on this forum have taken great delight in Torres being a total flop for Chelsea. He has scored 1 competitive goal for his new club. Carroll has scored in 1 competitive game for his new club, and our third on the night looked like an own goal to me, but I was only at the game - you of course would have had a much better view from your armchair.

Carroll is a much bigger waste of money than Torres. Torres has played at the highest level for Spain, scoring the winning goal at the European Championships. Carroll was bettered by the likes of Stokes and Hooper when they all played in the Championship at the same time. The prevailing view that the current stewards of the club can do no wrong is imbicellic - if we had signed Gary Hooper for £35 million would you have been happy? Probably. Says more about you than me.

Henderson - 20 years old. Achieved nothing in the Premier League. Is he Championship or Premiership standard quality. 18 very average premier league months very much leave the jury out. I don't mind a "punt" on young talent but £20 million is ridiculous. Has he showed the promise of a Gerrard, a Rooney or even a Walcott - no. Therefore to spend only slightly less on him than we did on Suarez is a risible decision.

Downing. Best season was with Middlesbrough - an established Premier League club. He contributes very little, is perennially injured and has extremely limited resale value. I will concede he is of Premier League quality, but is no better than that fan favourite Jermaine Pennant.

The response to my post is a microcosm of the mentality of some on this board which is so very tiresome and why I post so seldom. You don't agree with me (which is fair enough) so I am a wum. Well done on reaching such an enlightened stage.

As for contrasting this time last year to our present situation, I think we are immeasurably worse off. Champions League football is further away than ever, we have weakened our team since this time last year whilst United, City, Chelsea and Spurs have strengthened and Arsenal, for the moment at least, haven't weakened.

Mascherano and Torres or Adam and Carroll. Gee that's tough.

I know our messianic owners, exhalted director of transfer policy and deified manager can do no wrong. Let's just see how you feel when our 2 remaining top class players (Reina and Suarez) leave and we replace them with more **** at twice the price.

I was in Istanbul and Athens but those days are well and truly behind us now. Still - what do I know. The geniuses of EST have spoken - any dissent is "wummery". I think Mr Oldham told me something similar when he banned me.
      Some fair points.

"Some" being the operative word. Mixed in with a healthy sprinkling of over-emotion, exaggeration and twisting of facts to suit an agenda.

Let's just see how you feel when our 2 remaining top class players (Reina and Suarez) leave and we replace them with more **** at twice the price.
Ahhhhh, didn't we just sign Suarez? Like under our current "messianic owners, exhalted director of transfer policy and deified manager"? Or are we choosing to ignore that for the sake of your overall narrative?

Downing is perennially injured? Really? You might want to check that one.

Carroll - I'm not entirely convinced by him I admit, but as you've made the comparison would you care to compare his minutes on the pitch for us last year to those of Torres at Chelsea?

And as for being "immeasurably worse off" than we were this time last year, now that is just ridiculous. This time last year Mascherano was on his way out, Hodgson was in charge and H&G still owned the club. Since then we've changed manager, got rid of the worst owners the club has ever had, sold Torres and Babel, and brought in Suarez, Carroll, Downing, Henderson and Adam. Now you may not really rate some of those, and certainly there's an argument we've paid considerably over the odds for several of them, but to say we're "immeasurably" worse off now is hyperbolic at best and plain trolling at worst.

            Also, Carroll scored 2 goals......

As I am not a real fan I could see from the benefit of replays that he scored it.

              'Why Downing is rare commodity'

Liverpool great Peter Thompson believes the Reds have a rare commodity in new signing Stewart Downing and that the former Aston Villa man will help bring out the best in Andy Carroll.

Thompson was a tricky winger in the legendary Liverpool side of the 1960s but is well aware that there aren't many genuine wide men at the top level any more.

This, in his mind, makes the capture of Downing an important piece of Kenny Dalglish's summer rebuilding.

"For whatever reason there aren't many wingers around in football now," Thompson told LFC Weekly.

"When I played every team had two. Maybe kids don't want to play in that position any more.

"The scarcity of them means they are valuable and that's why you sometimes have to pay a little more for them.

"Stewart is somebody who seems to have improved as a footballer every season since he started at Middlesbrough and then went to Aston Villa.

"By all accounts he was one of Villa's best players last season. He clearly wanted to move to Liverpool and that's a good sign. I can see him providing Andy Carroll with very good service."

Having played 416 games for the Reds, Thompson is well placed to analyse the tools a winger needs to reach the top. He believes Downing is versatile enough to be a success at Anfield.

"As a winger there are days when you will have tough opponents. That's why it's important to have a combination of both pace and skill. If someone is as quick as you that's when you need something different to go past them.

"Stewart has that. I'm sure there will be times this season too when Kenny moves him over to the other wing during games. That's part of being a winger. It's an enjoyable role and it's good to see Liverpool bring in somebody who can play in that position."

When you make sweeping statements that people dont agree with, everyone will offer a reply. Its hardly ganging up.

                      He was gangbanged

I'm sure quite a lot of us on here had the same views about the players linked and who we have now signed .
Most of us though have come around though and will back them to be a success, but still look at the my list of players we never signed

If only we could sign Suarez or Torres type players rather than the above mentioned Championship level dross.
Are you not prepared to wait until Xmas, just to trust the club's judgement? Slagging off players before they've even pulled the shirt on is daft. The club clearly have a vision of creating a unit as opposed to a disjointed group of individuals and the players they've bought will slot in to that unit very well I reckon.

The other key point here is that we're not in a position to sign Torres type players this season as we're out of Europe, albeit temporarily. Downing, Adam etc would appreciate this whereas foreign players may not and would therefore overlook us.

Give them a chance fella and take a chill pill
