I thought Downing looked good today. Direct, good touch, composed well aware of what was going on around him and played the ball quickly. He also linked up really well with Aurelio on a number of occasions, and if Fabio can stay fit (I know) they look a pretty formidable pairing down the left.Modifying post.Comment

. But he played well for sure, his link up with Aurelio was good and he showed promise. He is a ganuine winger showed he was willing to go 'down the line', and also at times he was prepared to cut in. All in all I'd say a promising start for Downing - keep it up.

Played well in the first half, as he was our best outlet moving forward, apart from Carroll chasing ****ups.........but did taper off a bit in the 2nd before coming off.
