Who knows how a rogue S, like Suarez slipped under the radar?

I am also now convinced we must of been in for Aguero this summer, and that at least under Kenny, Xabi Alonso will never return to Anfield.
    Modifying post.

      Alonso? Surely a certainty.

I suspect Dalglish was caught out by Suarez's matronymic - Diaz. It was very soon after he took charge and maybe he got confused by the hispanophone practice of using the matronymic as an appendix to the patronymic. It's easily done.
      .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

        Same here.

He wasn't great (actually I don't think anybody was against Valencia) but he did show glimpses of what he can do.

Looking forward to seeing more of him.

Once he gets comfortable and get used to his teammates he should be a very nice improvement for us.

Downing is quicker and has a better cross. But Riera had more skill and a better shot.
I think they are quite similar but we were paying more for Downing's crosses than anything. In that way, he's definitely more dangerous than Riera and with Carroll in the box he can be very effective. We have one of the best strikers in the air and one of the best crossers of the ball. In theory it should work.

I dont think he is good enough. If i think, during the course of time, that he has improved on this, i'll say so. Same as Kuyt and Lucas who, IMO, werent good enough in the earlier stages of their LFC careers, but have improved considerably.

How can you say he’s not god enough if he hasn’t played a competitive game for us? You’ve admitted you were well wrong about Kuyt and Lucas, so why not wait and see with Downing then?

And Kuyt was fans player of the year in his first year BTW and Lucas didn’t do much wrong, just because you were overly vocal in unfairly critcising, doesn’t mean they ‘weren’t good enough’.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I felt Kuyt and Lucas werent good enough in their first season, or couple of seasons - and that they've improved drastically since then.

How does that point to me being wrong about them?

Let's put it another way. In my humble opinion, the contribution from Kuyt and Lucas, in their early year(s) with LFC, wasnt of a high enough standard. Now it is.

                  Is that ok?

And what do you mean by 'wait and see'? Of course i'm going to wait and see But in the HERE AND NOW, when it comes to expressing an opinion of how good a player is, that's what i'm doing.

Imo still early days but Downing looks like a type of player that we had been missing for years. Wasn't too keen when we signed him but based on what I've seen so far it is encouraging.

He needs to be involved more and has to have lots of touches but he has the potential to influence the game and give us width by stretching the defense on either flank and that is quire rare these days.

You don’t just ‘express’ it though, that’s the problem. You tediously overstate it, then embarrassingly backtrack.

Read my post in the Carroll thread mate, it sums the irony up. You keep badgering back at me, and when i reply, it's me 'tediously overstating' it - the simple solution is to stop badgering me and then i'll have nothing to reply to. It takes two for a back-and-forth.

Now that's quite ironic, as on here it usually takes Craig for a back-and-forth.

As for 'badgering', you've been posting the same crap repeatedly for weeks and it's only today I've replied because I'm bored.

Are you an only child Craig?

We, as in all of us, can't judge Downing's performance whether it be good or bad at all yet for us because there is absolutely nothing for basing an opinion on yet

If someone is signing for us, from another club - granted he hasnt played for us yet, but it's hardly weird that we'd make a judgement based on his time as a PL footballer, no?

                              Comment

He'll be playing with better players here. So all previous judgements all null and void.

It's the way it has to be.
