Yup, he's proving to be a very good buy. Gives us what we've be lacking for years. In saying that I think any left winger we could have signed would have improved us as we had no left side at all. Downing has got extra intangibles in his work rate and game smarts that perhaps endeared him to Kenny ahead of others.

He's been unlucky not to get a goal and a few assists already, but he makes things happen and he'll definitely contribute to goals and assists.

Yesterday's game proved to me why Downing suits us better than Mata - outstanding wing play and linkup with the other players.

Much better, more effective and dangerous player than Riera. What a pity Rafa went for Riera first. Excellent signing. The way he took Suarez's pass (just before Henderson's goal) on the volley was tremendous.
