I think the point is that to win the league & compete in the Champions League we will need a Robben/Ronaldo/Mata/Nasri in our team as well as Suarez.

Downing is a very good player and perfect for helping us get back in the top four, but next summer (assuming this year goes as planned) I fully expect us to buy a world class winger.

Think people are belittling Downing and not giving him time to show what he's capable of. Look at Young at Manure, people are lauding him now he's in a better team.

I love how you make it seem like me saying Downing isnt world class, is a criticism of some kind

And clearly i wasnt talking about Wes Brown (who, incidentally, was never 1st choice at MUFC, or considered good enough to keep), or suggesting that a team has to have world class players in every position.

with the form he's in atm moment, i can't see many sides in the world who wouldn't find a spot for him. there's a small handful, the usual suspects, but does the fact that barcelona and real might not use him not make him world class, because i think he walks right in just about anywhere else.
