'LFC is bigger than I thought'
    30th Aug 2011 - Latest News

Stewart Downing has been shocked by the size of Liverpool's fanbase.

The winger knew he was signing for one of the world's biggest clubs this summer, but the number of supporters from every corner of the globe has taken him aback.

"Everywhere we go there seems to be a lot of fans," he told Liverpoolfc.tv. "No disrespect, but I didn't have that at other clubs.

"We have fans all around the world. Especially games like Valerenga. I didn't realise we had so many fans based abroad. It shows you it's a big football club."

Downing is based in the city centre having yet to find a house on Merseyside - meaning he's had a lot of interaction with Kopites during his short time in the north-west.

"I've met a lot of the fans and the people and can sense a buzz around the place," he said. "They ask about the players, about who is fit and the season. They're very nice people, very genuine.

"There's a buzz in Liverpool again. With the money the owners have spent and the way we've started, you can understand that. We've now got to carry it on and give them something to cheer about.

"It's absolutely brilliant playing at Anfield. When I played against Liverpool you always sensed the atmosphere. They don't half get behind their team."
"I will make the boys feel your support"

So the reports that he had bought Joe Cole's house were nonsense then
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Well earned. Not surprised a bit.

Finally Capello made one good call.

Downing plays the full game but Young gets a rest on 60 minutes.

Further indication that Downing is the better player.

He played well last night. Hit the post, one assist, generally sharp.

He's just turned 27 so this really should be his time to shine. He looks like he's a big goal threat as well. Wouldn't be suprised if he got 10 goals this season.

Would people stop saying he'll never be world class? What's the ****ing difference anyway? He's Liverpool class and that's all that matters to me.

I think the point is that to win the league & compete in the Champions League we will need a Robben/Ronaldo/Mata/Nasri in our team as well as Suarez.

Downing is a very good player and perfect for helping us get back in the top four, but next summer (assuming this year goes as planned) I fully expect us to buy a world class winger.

What's the difference between world class players and not world class players, you mean?

                          Oh, not much, Just titles.

Yes, it's plain old Stewart Downing and that's not good enough. We need to sign players like Lord Lionel Messi and the Duke of Mata.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

If you'd actually read my posts around when Downing was signing, i never said he wasnt good, or that i didnt want him.

Stop acting like a tabloid newspaper. Carry on and i'll christen you the Daily Mail of EST
