typical Downing performance really. Did a couple of really good things and then was largely anonymous for the rest of the game.

Looking at the January transfer signings, him and Adam would be the only two I'd sell. Carroll and Henderson deserve more time as they are still young. Enrique and Bellamy are here to stay. Downing is just not improving and showing any signs of being a Liverpool player. Did Aston Villa fans really rate him? Surely he was better than this at Villa.

He was voted their player of the year last year wasn't he? So I'm guessing they rated him, and presumably he played better for them than he has for us so far.

Didnt we find out the 'vote' was just on an unofficial fans forum, much like EST and that only about 8 people had even voted on the poll?

There MAY have been an official one, i dont know - but all the talk on here of the 'Player of the Year' thing came from an unofficial villa forum which shaggy linked to - and the poll on there literally had about 8 votes or something like that

Downing is good enough to play for LFC. I actually think he could become a really good player. He could easily have had about 5-10 assists this season had our players put the chances away that have been on a plate for them, just been that kind of season.

I'm fed up of bleating on about it, but football is a confidence game for most players. If our team had put some chances away he'd laid on, he'd be getting less stick and would be more confident - meaning he'd be playing much better.

For me the very top players can win a game on their own and can raise their game even when the rest of the team are low. I'm not sure Downing will ever have the mental strength for that. But if the team pick up on performances, I think he will too, and I don't think he'd then look so out of place at times.

I think Adam maybe alright as backup, but downing needs to be sold. Bring in someone like Hoilett as back up instead.

Even though I dont think he is up to standard. But the level of hatred he receives from some is sad. He is a red after all.
