i am not nibbilng well not purposefully.

he has never really played at the top top end of the prem. same for young before his move to the scum i suppose.

i dont thing he is that good but i suppose its made worse by people not converting chances etc.

if we want to win the league and EC again we need better than downing is i am afriad.

That may well prove to be true and based on the available evidence, it's looking that way. But as i've said, i'm reluctant to write off a player after less than a year, especially one who, albeit only to an extent, has 'delivered' before.

yeah i can see it either way

somehow alot of discussions on here move from a small difference to a he is **** he is amazing stance pretty quickly.

so some people who look like they are writing him off actually arent

but hey ho these things happen

          It depends on the player.

In fairness we didn't pay 35m for Carroll to wait 3, 4 years for him to develop.

He should have been finished or close to be finished product by now and he is not.

I would give that time to Teixeira as he is only 19, came from different country and we paid peanuts to get him but not to Carroll.

Frankly, that's a ridiculous expectation. What 22 year old is ever the finished product?

i would have thought a fair chunk of the carrol fee was for potential

I think he refers to the fee rather than his age. A £35m player should be the finished product, or just coming into his peak. Wouldn't you agree?

no a player tends to peak around a fairly consistent age range.

its nothing to do with fee

Should Shearer have been the finished article at the age of 22 when Blackburn paid a british record fee for him?

No 22 year old is the finished article, regardless of what fee is paid for them.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

                        Nowhere near.

That first half season with us Mascherano was phenomenal. I don’t think he ever improved on that, just maintained a very high standard. In his position, he was a freak to be so good so young.

                            Ridiculous expectation?

Did we pay 5m for him or we paid what almost Auguro cost (few millions less) or what Cavani or Llorente or Higuain would have cost etc?

For that type of money either you should be ready to either hit the ground running right away or you are world class potential that may need little time to settle and he is neither.

He has been here more than year and his contribution has been minimal to say and his mechanics and technical skills are so limited that I seriously doubt he'll ever come good regardless of time.

My point is for the money in question we should not be waiting 3 or 4 years for him to develop.

Rooney is another example. And Chamberlain. We pissed the Torres money away and should have waited until the Summer window and chosen our target more carefully.

If we dont want to be waiting for someone to develop, we should sign players aged around 28 then, not 22 year olds.

22 year olds are never going to be the finished article, regardless of the fee.
