FWIW I didn't. I didn't mind him and to this day I'm still not as repulsed as everyone else by him despite acknowledging that he's a cunt. Hodgson is probably the most hated figure I've ever had at the club (on the playing side) and as mentioned Ince is my most disliked player that I can think of.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

        Downing hits back at critics

Liverpool winger Stewart Downing has hit back at the critics who have rounded on him for his indifferent displays this season.

Downing joined the Anfield outfit last summer for £20million from Aston Villa and was expected to provide the width Liverpool have lacked for years.

Yet along with the other high-profile signings at the club - Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson - the Kop is still waiting to see their best displays.

Liverpool face Everton on Tuesday in what will be a combustible derby clash and the England wide man insists he and his fellow new signings will come good for the Carling Cup winners.

"Some people look at it and say, 'They are all internationals or they paid this fee for that player they should just come in and do a job'," he told the Daily Star.

"In reality it doesn't happen like that. There are many examples from the past of a lot of foreign players coming in and struggling at first.

"Then all of a sudden, they have set the world alight and become top players. A few of the players have been getting used to Anfield, the lads around them and to Liverpool itself."

Liverpool claimed the Carling Cup last month with a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Cardfiff. They are still in the FA Cup and have an outside chance of finishing in the top-four.

If they achieve these targets, the former Middlesbrough starlet will view the campaign as a success.

He added: "If we get to another final and manage to finish in the top four it will have been a very good season for the club considering the additions we had in the summer."

I wish he would do the talking on that patch of grass in a red shirt.

Not his fault if he isn't good enough. Blame the people who bought him.

He has a point about allowing players time to settle and adjust, before fulfilling their potential.

Problem is, the level of performance he's shown at LFC is probably just his standard level. He isnt a brilliant player playing below his capability, he's an average player, he always has been and he's producing poor to average displays.

There's no logic in suggesting that he will become a brilliant player, after a whole career of mediocrity.

Yep but I don't think anyone can have a pop at him for not being good enough. Don't think he can be blamed for lack of effort. Should never have been here in the first place nor has he kicked on to another level since coming to Anfield.

He absolutely can be blamed for lack of effort. Some of his 'performances' have been nothing short of cowardly. Lack of ability is one thing and i dont blame him for that, but i blame him for being too scared to take responsibility, being too scared to put himself about and being too lazy to actually do the right things.

I trust you to see things that I can't see cos you go to matches. Again, i think it's the management's fault imo. Be it Kenny or Commolli for a) not improving the player and b) signing the poor guy in the first place. He was doing ok for Villa.
