i mean, jeez, someday you won't be able to hold any racist views at all without some asshole looking down his nose at you, even at the football.

People do have racist views, we can't beat it out of them.

Doesn't taking the piss out of fat people or people with big noses do exactly the same though ?

It's about how a person is made to feel surely, regardless of what insult is used ?

                Racist thoughts are evil things?

Ok. I disagree, but I suppose we're into the definition of evil.

To be honest, comparing racism to taking the piss out of someone for having a big nose is a rather ridiculous comparison. Were generations of people ever sold into slavery or treated as sub-human because of the shape of their nose? Of course discriminating against anyone for any difference they have to you is wrong, but can we have some perspective here please?

Oh, and as for the idea of people opposed to racism actually being responsible for racism I have issues with the way a few, well publicised things have happened in the world of football recently, but what would we rather, that nobody challenged those who actually hold and espouse racist views?
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                        Mine angry and defrauded young?

                          oh dear.

People will think whatever they think, they can't be forced to do otherwise. Football is no more racist than any other aspect of life, generally going to a match there appears to be much less racism than say going to the pub. We can't fix racism through football. I know people who have become sick of football recently. There isn't too much racism in football, there is too much anti-racism. I can't label all racists as evil because then I'd hate friends and family and colleagues who for whatever reason hold racist views. I've had arguments with people and it doesn't change anything, if anything their views become more extreme. I've been labelled a racist because I'm a Liverpool supporter. Too much airtime is granted to the anti-racist campaigners, they've had their say and they had an opportunity to offer rational persuasive points and failed miserably.

i don't believe in any kind of supernatural evil. all we have are our actions really. if there is any kind of satan it's to be found in racism, homophobia and sexism. stuff like that which becomes institutionalized, dehumanizes people, leads to all kinds of different slavery and drives wedges between people. attractiveness you could say is similar, although generally it's not legally codified. it certainly plays a big part in life though, and sometimes it's quite unfair.

any time one group of people decide they have a right to dominate another group, then yeah. i'd say that's pretty negative and evil. affects way more people than murder.

nobody ever said you had to hate anybody. speaking personally, my father was quite racist once upon a time. then my sisters and i all went to black schools, and our mindset changed. slowly but surely we managed to chip away at my father until he understood that ****** jokes aren't cool. i'm proud to say he voted for obama recently, which i never saw coming. the point is we didn't argue, but explained that there are limits in existence and they're there for a good reason about what's acceptable behavior towards people of other races. i don't like chancers who use campaigns to make a name for themselves, but i've got way more time for them than i have for unapologetic racists.

I'm sure there is an anti-semitic thing in there somewhere

In all seriousness, there is a big need for society to take a stance against racism as it will otherwise prevail and perhaps even seen as accepted, and it's great that a big outlet like football can help towards that goal. It's a great way to reach many people and especially the younger generation, so that they don't grow up being as ignorant as the one before them.
