Inter Milan have been fined 15,000 euros (£12,900) after racist chants from their fans about AC Milan's Mario Balotelli at a match against Chievo.

The ex-Inter striker joined their local rivals from Manchester City last month.
Juventus were also fined 15,000 euros after their fans were heard singing territorial songs about rivals Napoli.

And Napoli were the third team to be fined that amount after away fans were adjudged to have shone a laser pen at referee Daniele Orsato at Lazio.

Inter president Massimo Moratti was quick to condemn the behaviour of his team's supporters and hoped there would be no repeat when the Milan teams meet at the San Siro on 24 February.

"I was told about it because I couldn't make out clearly what they were saying. I'm very sorry about that," Moratti said.

"I'm very sorry and I really hope it doesn't happen during the derby."

Earlier this month, AC Milan vice-president Paolo Berlusconi was accused of using racist language to describe 22-year-old Italy international Balotelli.

In Australia, as far as I know, it is viewed differently as it doesn't have any of the vile connotations it has here. There, it is simply an abbreviation along the lines of Brit.

Surely it doesn't need to be explained to an adult why it is rightly viewed over here as a racist term?
You're right about Australia, it carries no derogatory meaning here.

This is not a racist or derogatory term, but a term to describe somebody from Pakistan. A similar example would be to call someone from Turkey, a 'Turk', or someone from Britain a 'Brit'.

P**i should not be edited...however it seems to be on here!
That's a bit like saying the n word is 'just' a derivation of the word meaning black.

Lots of hatred still remains - for some due to a vindictive emotional response to the history. Then there are others with little connection to these things who are just perpetuate prejudice out of sheer stupidity.

The word has been used in acceptable circumstances. Its frequently used by Aussie cricket commentators to refer to the Pakistan team. Or are we forgetting the whole Suarez incident with context and intent and whether ut is delivered in a pejorative manner?

Probably not considering the context is outright racist abuse by Millwall fans

i have seen [on tv and in the flesh] several english born lads of pakistani decent refer to themselves as pakis, and say they are proud to be called a pakis, cos thats what they are. they feel more pakistani than english.

What does that really mean within this argument though?

It was mentioned earlier, a few posts back. Maybe i should have quoted someone to make my comment more relevant.

I've read back but I can't see anything. Just because it can arguably be said without it being racist doesn't mean it is necessarily not racist, which seemed to be the argument here. The same applies to the n word.

All these diminutives are terms of abuse really. I'd include Brit too, although it hardly needs saying it's nowhere near as offensive as P***.
                            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
