It's ridiculous how much MOTD (and all other punditry) is the opposite of a meritocracy. Most have failed as managers yet get to air their lazy tactical opinions to millions each week, which are then taken as gospel.

The only analogy I can think of is getting waning popstars to judge on the myriad TV talent shows we have nowadays. At least they seem to have some enthusiasm/understanding of their role.

A few Joe Allen stats for you's.

Joe Allen has won possession back the most in the EPL this season: 70 times. Mark Noble is 2nd on 66, Mulumbu 3rd on 60.

Today Joe Allen 60/62 competed passes ... 15/16 successful in final 3 area (You seeing that Alan Shearer you absolute knob?)

95.2% pass succession rate today and the most passes out of anyone with 63.

      I also saw this one.

Joe Allen has made 11.1% of his total passes backwards, while Steven Gerrard has made 16.8% of his total passes backwards

That idiot on Redmen TV was saying Allen had a **** game. Watching this video just shows how valuable he is to us. He's got everything

This is outstanding haha. He seems to beat Fellaini to every ball, gets in front of him or gets a foot round to tackle him and Fellaini gets frustrated and ends up kicking him or pushing him over. Its like David vs Goliath. I don't know another player like Allen because his size should really mean he is at a serious disadvantage to other players but it doesn't mean that whatsoever

He reminds me a little bit of Mascherano, the way he harries people. I'd love to see Allen and Mascherano in the same team - those two would dominate any midfield battle imo. Lack of height might be an issue though

Very similar but maybe not quite as strong IMO. Fantastic player with an admirable work ethic, he is already a key figure in this team.

Would be really interesting to see how he works with Lucas.

I thought he was the only one in the midfield at times yesterday that realised we needed to slow things down, keep possession and get control of the midfield back.

As others have mentioned he was up against Fellaini numerous times too, never once made it easy for him, and took one hell of a kicking .

Watching him yesterday made me realise he has future captain material. I think he can be a leader one day.

Yeah, he's not as good defensively, but obviously far more comfortable in possession. They'd be a total nightmare to play against, that's for sure.

He's probably my favourite player right now. Love watching him play. 21 as well... Rodgers' Alonso, I reckon.

He clearly didn't watch the same game as you and I.

                      He was simply outstanding.

Lucas and Allen are perfect for the Rodgers style. With Suso and Shelvey both capable of filling the Gerrard position in the pitch the future is the brightest I've seen it since I've been a Liverpool fan.

I really can now see why Brendan said something along the lines of "He may be only 5ft 6" but he plays like he's 6 ft 7". It sounded cheesy but it is very true. That ******* Fellaini couldn't get near him

Fellaini dominated the entire midfield. I'm a massive Allen fan and he worked his arse off but he and no other LFC player got anywhere near Fellaini.... he bossed that game. Dirty ******* but a quality player.

I dunno. I thought Mirallas destroyed our midfield in the first half. Fellaini frequently kept passing the ball to our players in the first half. I was actually shocked as to how bad his passing was. He got a good assist though. And in the second half he was nowhere to be seen. I reckon if Mostar did a clip for Fellaini, he would look pretty shoddy.

Mirallas was their stand out player in teh first half no doubt and we were lucky that he went off.

For me Fellaini played the enforcer role, he hassled, harried, kicked and battered his way through our team. Poor Allen was bounced around by him. How he didn't get booked was beyond me but i thought he was superb, guy is a handful no matter what position he plays. He wasn't pretty for them but bloody hell he was effective.
