I get why you are saying hes a European type player but the Premier League is a different type of game that relies on a certain level of physicality

To me a midfield player should effect the play at one end of the pitch or another. If hes an attacking player he should create chances and score goals, if hes a defensive player he should win possession

This to me is where Allens problem lies he doesnt do either of them enough so hes a luxury or a passenger in most of our games

I personally think hes most effective coming off the bench when we are winning comfortably to just see the game out

        to all of this.

Shame the club doesn't hold off a bit longer because if BR goes in the early part of the season I'd like to think his successor would be shipping wee Joe back to Swansea pronto.

allen, nor none of the others, can adequately cover as a DM in place of lucas, so even less reason to consider allen as cover.

He's judged by an unfair criteria IMO, the English ideal of a midfielder that smashes in 30 yarders, goes flying into tackles or sprays a ball 60 yards. He's more of a European player, the type that thrives in a passing game, he circulates and keeps it moving offering angles.

I personally think we've played some of our best football as a team when Joe Allen has been involved, the 5-0 away at White Hart Lane, the 3-0 away at Old Trafford. When the team is functioning, he's at his best. We need these kind of players.
You see this as a positive I see it as a negative, IMO we have too many "passive" players who only play well when the team is playing well, we need players who are capable of taking control of a game and getting the team functioning when things aren't going well.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think that we'll struggle to climb the table just competing for the best individuals, as we'll be outgunned financially by at least four other Prem teams. The way we do it IMO is by concentrating on being tactically different and building a unique system. For that we need intelligent players, to translate the system into the pitch coherently. Players that are functional, and do the 50% of the game that is rarely showcased on MOTD. The off the ball stuff, the positional stuff. We can't have everyone of our midfielders breaking the lines and essentially vacating the midfield. Allen is clearly cconservative by nature, and won't be trying to beat 3 men but if we had 10 outfield players trying to do that we'd never have the ball.

No problem with Joe Allen, if he's not good enough for some then call the board, manager and scouts '****e' and 'useless', they buy the player, they keep the player, and they train the player.

Really wonder what quality of player you guys expect to come here and play so few games while sitting on the bench as 3rd choice!

But hey, give Joe a hard time, he's small after all!

He's not ****e, I think he's great at making himself available for possession in tight spaces and playing simple balls like Lucas does.
He also covers a lot of ground closing people down, like Masch did.

Problem is he can't tackle as well as Masch did, and he gets bullied off the ball by more powerful players, which Lucas doesn't.

Useful, but needs beef around him.

He's useful when you need to slow games down, take the sting out of them and pop the ball around. He basically sterilises football, he's a sanitary product.

Liverpool are **** when he starts though.
