Kolo Toure

I know Kolo had a good game the other night. But I'm beginning to think I had some sort of amnesia about last season?

He was woeful for large parts of it, and if anything cost us 4 points and the league arguably with his wonder goal for Fulham and his world class through ball for West Brom.

He's a strange player but he's shown in the past that he is capable of sustained periods of excellent form. He's played well when when given the opportunity this season (against worthy opposition) which makes him almost unique in our squad. I don't think anyone is under the illusion he is the saviour of our season but when Rodgers dropped Skrtel he came back better and it feels like the time when Lovren needs the same treatment.

I still have hopes that Lovren will excel for us but needs better surroundings to thrive. When Cahill moved to Chelsea he really struggled but now he looks to be a very consistent performer and with England takes responsibility in a way he used to shy away from.

Regarding Kolo.....i actually think that on ability, he should be the 4th choice center back at LFC. However, out of our 4 defenders he is probably the best communicator - and that is why he should be in the team. Any combination of Lovren Skrtel and Sakho results in big gaping space in our defense when our 2 centre backs go for the same ball. It would actually be comedy had it not been so feckin tragic!

For me the 2 solutions - in order of my preference - would be to:

1. Play a proper holding midfielder to protect the defense....
2. Play Kolo next to Skrtel, Lovren or Sakho

Very happy with his performance today and this season in general. He definitely deserves a run of games. A Lovren free defence is much better for us.

Played well with Lovren in the cup & played well next to Skrtel today. No doubt he'd play well with Sakho. £40m on CB's and Kolo is still our best CB. Ridiculous. I don't even think he's that great, just makes his partner play better.
