Lack of ambition I guess Sara.
they brought down the capacity to suit GH spending plans from 70,000.
We have a waiting list of over 50,000 season ticket holders according to our new owners. As soon as they come in, first thing on the agenda is raise the capacity.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Moores and Parry created the best stadium available with the resources they had.
missing the point kinda.

Interesting news this, but it's bound to delay proceedings quite a bit, and there will bound to be many, many objectors to this plan.
80,000 seems fantastic but I won't like the look of all the empty seats on a cold Wednesday night in January when we play a struggling side or a lower league side in the cup. I'd rather see a full stadium than loads of empty seats like we see regularly at Villa or Boro these days. Saying that, it should solve thousands of people's problems that are on the season tickets waiting list!
It would be great to have such a huge stadium but I feel there's a very long way to go yet if these plans are true.
Well done Rushie on announcing it here first!
well said.
Anyone under the illusion that going from 60-80 is going to happen in 6 months - is living in la la land. Its a serious jump and surrounding infrastructure will have to be upgraded and numerous objections fought. I would tell people to hold off opening the champagne.
Is this going to effect all the grants that we have secured? and if we started building preparations already are the authorities going to be happy that we could extend the life of the building site by anything from 1 to 3 years?
Having said all that I really hope they sit down and get this absoutely right before steaming in half arsed. its gotta be the best thing to do - bigger capacity so we dont have a new stadium that is immediately 15000 behind united - and a better design - the old one is ****e.
Lecter mentioned yesterday about the rail link and i guess it doesn't cost that much to increase the seating to an additional 20k. But how you get these extra 20k people to and from the stadium easily is the major issue for the council / police etc
someone mentioned that a new rail system or something like that was needed if the capacity was raised to a level like this for the new stadium, is this true? and wouldnt it cost a small fortune?.
Yes the council implied that planning for a larger capacity would be conditional on putting in a rail link or at the very least using the rail line near Anfield Cemetary
The improved infrastructure requirement is one of the major reasons that you had such a large differential in the initial costings
60,000 seater stadium was originally costed at £80 million and 70,000 seater plus stadium was costed at £120 million. Bearing in mind todays cost for a 61,000 seater is circa £220 million a 80,000 seater stadium would probably cost over £400 million

I agree 6 months is extremely optimistic

Was thinking along them lines myself.

Suppose you want to build a new house, and have managed to get hold of a nice plot of land - you want to build a big house, for your big family and manage to get plans to build a nice 3 bed roomed house. Just about as you are to start work on the building you suddenly get a large wind fall of cash, and a long lost cousin turns up with a fantastic knowledge of building houses. What do you do? Stick with the 3 bed house that was all that you could have afforded previously - or try for the spectacular 5 bed house, with conservatory?

The thing is Hicks and Gillett (and LFC) need to be earning from the stadium asap
How long can they afford to throw money at LFC before we start becoming self sufficient or giving them a return on the investment
The current stadium plan is set for completion summer 2009, this could severely put back this date

That's an interesting question. Personally I would go for a four bedroom house plus music room. I would also want a south-facing living room and a large kitchen.
I'm not sure about conservatories myself, you only tend to use them for 4 or 5 months, seems a bit of a waste.
What does everyone else think?
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
80000 would be immense - does anyone else think that Hicks and Gillet are looking at the the mancs and in particular Glazer and are thinking in typical american gung ho, lets out do that ******* up the road - i can see the next few years consisting of our yanks trying to outstrip the scums yanks - and so far we look like we mean business, USA USA USA
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

If the train line goes ahead they will also need planning permission to build a station there as well, it will be based at the bottom of ince avenue not far from the cemetary gates, that is also a residential area and those residents may object.
They will also need to pay for an operator to run the line wich may be problematic as it will be only running for so many times a year.
If this goes ahead then it will cost an absolute fortune lets hope we can sustain it.
Just to be clear I hate Rick Parry with a ****ing passion and no I don't want to talk about it.
