Cheers, Rafa has done a fantastic job and hasn't made a loss on the players he has bought which is amazing considering the losses on players over the past 20 years. Interesting summer(after the CL) when we can see who Rafa is going to buy now he is quids in. Hope not too many as we need continuity and a settled squad who know eachs others style of play.

Whatever the reasons for Michael Owen leaving, the question is whether he could do a job for us this year and whether he would be a cheap proven goalscorer in the premiership. Despite been written off countless times he has always scored goals. If we had him we could pair him with Crouch and maybe bid for Huntelaar who plays with Kuyt at international level. Rafa could rotate both pairs as he likes to do. This way we could get 2 strikers for the price of an Eto or Villa who are both unproven in the Premiership. We could then spend any remaining money on Alves and possibly a left winger.

Michael Owen gave Liverpool great service for 10 years and left. While I was disappointed, he should be treated with respect for what he achieved with us and to abuse him for leaving, brings us as fans down to the level of other clubs.

I haven't read all of the thread as it got bogged down somewhat!

Anyway - FWIW I would be quite happy if we re-signed Owen as he's exactly what we miss; an out and out goalscorer.

I was as disappointed as anybody the way Owen left for Madrid, especially after the reassurances that he was gonna stay. But in time - once I remembered the goals he scored for us - and the way he was worked like a dog at times, I got over the disappointment.

I also believe that the lad has been so badly advised it's untrue and it's also true he should have stood his ground with Madrid and made sure he got his move back to Liverpool - a team that I do believe holds a special place in his heart.

Football is a business - and our business could really do with a decent goalscorer.

Thanks for that, I think us as fans should treat one of the best strikers that ever played for the club with respect and that if we had agreed a fee with Madrid he would have come back in a shot. He took what he thought was his best choice(for his career) at the time ie sit in the reserves at Madrid or join Newcastle. The fact that he negotiated cheaper get out clauses or that he had to be made aware of any Liverpool bids showed that his heart is still at Anfield. I also wonder how the people abusing him would react if he resigned and scored on his debut!

                Ha!
Knowing Owen he would need 4 chances to bag one goal.

a 1998 Owen, I'd snatch ya hand off

a 2006 Owen, I'd rather stick AFII upfront

I think that is the point mate; it is 6 years ago.
Sadly, he isn't what he was. Now he is like Kewell, a good footballer with a wrecked body.

Owen's young enough to sort out his fitness.

Dont get me wrong, i'm not saying we should sign a crocked player who'll never be fit to play. But, if he gets some games under his belt, i think he'd be a good signing. £9m in this day and age is peanuts and for the goals he'd score, i'd be overjoyed to see him come back.

Sorry mate I thought that you would cheer the assist rather that the fact Owen would have scored rather that the fact that Owen had injury problems. He has been written off too many times but I am making 2 points here
                                1. He was a Liverpool legend and deserves respect
                                2. For the price would he be better value in the premiership than an unproven huge signing like Eto and that for the money we would pay for Eto we could have Owen and Huntelaar(as cover)
