End of this debate, as far as I'm concerned.Originally posted by BillobShaisley View PostI wouldn't say "end of", i'd say that was quite debateable. You ever had to grieve in public?
*snip* Actually i'd say more but maybe in a few days
If this makes a shattered family feel even a little bit better, then why not? Give me a reason. And, no, we don't do it for every single person who has suffered a loss of any kind (recalling briefly your blindingly ignorant "every time someone steps on a spider" comment). But that doesn't mean we should never do it.
You also implied that this was some some of smug, coy, PR-stunt for the club. I won't go into the hundreds of ways I find that implication objectionable, i'll just say I couldn't agree less.
So tell me. Tell me why we shouldn't try and make a pair of heartbroken parents feel better, even if only for a moment.
Actually, don't bother. I shant be looking in this thread again. Nothing you can say will put me in the "anti-big hearted gestures" camp. Nor would I ever wish to be.jD

I cant believe people can be deliberately contraversial in a thread like this , it seems some people will use any method to give themselves some notoriety. The Club is in a no win situation if it gets criticized for doing a noble and respectful tribute like playing the Z cars theme , its just a way of showing the people of Liverpool that as a club we care about a death of a young football fan ,regaurdless of whether your a red or blue ,its the City of Liverpool afterall.I was Riddler on Koptalk.

God forbid when Revo sees some of the comments in this thread.
Some people really don't know when to shut up do they.
It's a nice gesture, and when you are a parent and you have lost someone close like a child it helps to know that others care and are thinking of your loss. It helps spread their burden.

Putting aside the petty bickering and playground rivalry here in this thread. I think Rick Parry has done well there, has kept his own work out of the spotlight and IMO we can be proud the club is doing something like this, I think it's a good idea. I noticed that the Blackburn Rovers left a bouqet of flowers as well and a card which I thought was nice. This case has had decent coverage in Iceland and as a parent you really feel for Rhys' parents.Originally posted by Pacman View PostThis was posted by the Rhys uncle on RWAK.
Just want to add my thanks to Tony for the original suggestion, and for all his subsequent efforts on this, it's a unique idea, to honour the memory of a unique lad, must admit I'm a bag of nerves over tonight myself, but have been re-assured somewhat by the the posts I've been reading across several LFC Forums. I can fully understand some people's misgivings on the nature of the tribute, who knows what the right thing to do is in a situation like this, I certainly don't, but i do know we've all been overwhelmed by the level of support from people, whether by their thoughts or their deeds.
Must also say that Rick Parry has been superb, I know the fella gets plenty of stick on here and elsewhere when fans think he's got it wrong, but he deserves full credit for his handling of this, which I might add he's done personally throughout
Looks like a publicity stunt to me?
Surely you can see that this actually means a lot to the poor lads family? A song and a minutes applause is all we are doing. FFS man have a heart or **** off.
We have to show solidarity and support for the parents to show the scumbags that are involved in gangs that we won't tolerate violence, specially when innocent people and children are involved.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Even if there are objective (cold-hearted some would say) points of view against this gesture that are logical in some way, is it imperative that they have to be voiced?
There is nothing less logical and more emotional than the death of a child so maybe a little SENSITIVITY might be called for.
If you disagree with what is happening tonight then so be it, but for the sake of the family, if for no other reason, why not keep it to yourself? You can agree with me, or you can be wrong.

It's a tribute to an 11 year old football fanatic who has been murdered.
What is wrong with that? Play Z cars at Woodison, no-one would recognise the significance. If this tribute gives the terrible crime some more publicity, helps bring more information forward, helps remind the idiot politicians to do their job or just gives the family some feeling of support then it is more than worth it. It's only a friggin song.
I think the club has been fntastic in agreeing to this, it's exactly the kind of thing that needs support by our fans. It's what makes us special and different to just another money grabbing bunch of mercenaries.
Well in Parry

Certainly an excellent gesture to make, however I really hope it doesn't backfire on us with some of the dickheads that go the game these days. We usually observe minutes silences perfectly and I think that's something we've always been proud of, but playing a rival teams song might be enough to set a few of the plebs off, I really hope it doesn'tThomas Hicks Senior

i dont think there is anyone on this site that hates the blue****e more than me but this is not about football its about some comfort not only to the family of the wee man but also it gives the community a sense of the madness and the warfare erupting on the streets of liverpool. personally i dont know the family but ive had a terrible feeling about me since the kids murder. everytime i see the picture of that young lad i see my own nephew with his freckles and his everton shirt minding his own buisness playing footie in the street. how dare some of you ***** compare this kids death to spider bites or if you died in manchester blah blah blah. keep your ****ing big mouths shut and try to show some class and dignity and act like a liverpool fans instead of some ****ing gob****e."People from Liverpool have got something about them and, if they’re not happy about something, they let people know.”
