We disagree on Kewell. I think he's absolutely useless. I don't recognise this "on his day" player you refer to. I don't know what Kewell is like on form because he never is. The sooner he goes the better for me.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostEven if Kewell and Benya-noon played to their potential? You still think we're too weak?
Benayoun reminds me of Houghton, I think he could be a similar player.
Kewell on form is a great left winger but I admit Rafa has been very unlucky with Kewell. You can understand why he keeps faith with him due to the lack of viable alternatives and Kewell being a great player on his day.
Yossi I like and I think the Stingray comparison is a fair one.
But if he's injured what do we have on the flanks.
Nobody really. Babel is a centre forward in my view rather than a winger. Kewell see above. Pennant is poor.
I think we're probably 2 wingers away. So yes, I'd say we're still too weak.
We don't have any flank players even remotely in the class of Giggs and Ronaldo do we.

Much weaker and far less competitive league. Strongest team they knocked out of Europe to win the CL was Man U (I think that says it all). They subsequently beat Lyon, Deportivo and Monaco to win CL.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostWhat about Porto with feck all to spend?White liquid in a bottle = Milk

Yeah, but could you manage Porto to consecutive title, a UEFA cup and a Champions league with feck all money?Originally posted by Johnny View PostIn the Portugeses league.
EPL is a different propsition with no money.
I reckon you couldn't

You can only beat the teams in front of you, who was in their group stage? Who did the play when they won the UEFA cup?Originally posted by Dhavlos View PostMuch weaker and far less competitive league. Two £18m players? Say Alves or Silva to play on the right, may be Anelka or Villa to play up front? That right there could probably win us the league IMO.Originally posted by Johnny View PostI`d like to see which positions Rafa deems under par and if the yanks will in the next few yrs fill those positions with 18 million pound players just like ManU and Chelsea have done.White liquid in a bottle = Milk

No idea, but the point is Mourinho's record with Porto and subsequently Chelsea is no barometer of what he could achieve at Liverpool on a limited budget IMO.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostYou can only beat the teams in front of you, who was in their group stage? Quick comment on Mourinho at Chavski:
The 300 million pound figure is misleading, in the summer and winter transfer windows of his first season when he won the league with a record points score and a record number of goals, he spent 89 million total.
Secondly, Chavski demanded instant success, so Mourinho did what needed to be done to achieve that plus the records.
Would LFC demand instant success? History would suggest no as we are generally patient with managers if they appear to be doing a good job. He'd be given 3 years minimum which negates the need to spend 300 or even 89 million. Also our current squad is better than the squad he inherited from Ranieri, but that's just my opinion
In my opinion, Mourinho's results DO speak for themselves. He knows what it takes to win the premiership with a record points score and a record number of goals. He knows how to make a team great on a limited budget- Porto in UEFA cup and CL not to mention simultaneous domestic success.

Lacking in key areas. Also think style of play is something of an issue.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostSo why are we so far off the pace then?
I believe we are two top players short of being champions. Hopefully instead of the usual close season of buying 4-5 squad players, Rafa buys two top quality first teamers. I think it could make all the difference.
Guess so.Originally posted by Red Chilli View Postah well, we disagree then
