As I understand it you pay a lump sum for a share then you get a vote in any decisions made. You vote for the club Chairman every few years etc.

What happens if more funds are needed for a new signing? Who decides this? do they contact EVERY shareholder and request another fiver?

Seems very complicated to me, but also VERY exciting too. We would be run by big business, ran to squeeze every last penny out of the club, we would be ran by the fans!
Barca have some very rich members who stump up the cash if they need to.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Barca have 100,000 'socios' who put up the money for the club but its a completely different scenario. I spend a year in Barcelona and everybody's lives revolve around Barca.

The kids, the teenagers, mums and dads, middle aged, old aged and even dead people love Barca - its all Barca, Barca, Barca because of the history of the catalans and Franco's side Real Madrid.

Its part football but a big part politics - everyone walks around with Barca in their heads and nobody forgets what 'crimes were committed against their people'.

I've never seen anything like it before and it takes some getting used to. I think that's why the Barca 'socio model' is so successful, because of their political conditions in the region of Catalonia.

They would have no trouble coughing up £5k each.

This thread reminds me of the Co-op I lived in back in the 70's...

It will never happen of course but we do need to dream a little I guess.

I noticed that alright at the game, a great sense of community, as you say, it is apparent that their are several generations of families at the game together, grandfather with his grandkids etc.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Its been suggested that DIC could want the club for 2 reasons, making money (obv) and raising the profile of their country, if they backed this "non profit making organisation" scheme in term of resources, people, finance over a limited time scale as a gesture of goodwill they would raise their profile and would not lose any money if indeed the scheme was successful the club was purchased and then sold back to the people.

In terms of why would G&H sell to these when they turned down DIC......... if any football club or city could unite to do this its Liverpool. Once everything is in place a very fair offer would be made to them (not to fair though) if its turned down maybe a comment of "the supporters of this club understand what is needed for the greater good" after spelling out to everyone their plans of their mission statement of the club and then though and behold we get an empty anfield for the next game.

The backlash from the country not just Liverpool at these outsiders taking from the world of football and england would be too great.

Anyway lots of its and buts, but if this was put in place the tabloids would have a field day, its just the sort of story they would wank themselves silly over

They seem to be looking at this to provide a new model for ownership of clubs in English football, which many people would agree is needed. Without knowing detail it would seem to be a method of removing debt from a club.

Given that UEFA and FIFA are only prepared to sit on their hands and bitch about foreign ownership in the premiership, it seems these guys are prepapred to offer an alternative. It appears they are utilising the de-stabilising of our club and the size and passion of our fan base to try and at least open up a debate about how English football can be altered/improved.

I'm really interested to find out how they propose to make it work, especially how transfers are funded. That said, I don't think G&H will be selling to anyone.

Not sure how it will work and not sure why H&G are any more likely to sell.

Also, say somehow they sell 100,000 shares at £5K each and buy the club, how exactly do they raise another £250m for stadium etc. Can’t see how it works without capital behind it.

This certainly seems an interesting idea!

Can't wait to hear more about this proposal, but seriously doubt that the two Yanks would sell up at this time.

I do have a 5p piece and a 2p piece that's stuck to my glove box in my car from the remains of that sticky sweet that I found a few weeks ago - these can go towards the club if needed!

This would be my problem with it, the amount they want to raise doesn't seem enough to buy the club and fund the stadium. Also the Barca system has people paying a set amount every year so would they then expect that as well?

I concur that we should just wait to hear what these guys have to say. the three fellas mentioned so far are no mugs, especially rogan taylor, as has already been established. Ultimately, this goes beyond Liverpool and represents a challenge to the footballing hierarchy generally. It is a statement of alarm concerning the way clubs around the country are being run for profit only, and how club's are pimping themselves out to the highest bidder. Sure, they are businesses, but they are equally social institutions with remarkably rich histories that need to be respected. This idea may well not work out, but it is certainly admirable and shows that there are still guys out there - real fans - who are willing to do something to change our game. This might all sound a bit overly romantic, but isn't the magic of the game what we all get into it for in the first place?!

So you think it will be £500,000,000 to buy the club and wipe out the debt?
