I'm struggling to understand how Hicks will be persuaded to sell up when faced with an offer from this (or any group for that matter). It's all very well suggesting a boycott of the games, but that isn't really where the money is. It might be in the corporate seats (who surely won't boycott) but is definitely in the tv money. TV audiences would certainly go up!

There will obviously be a figure at which he will sell cos everyone has a price, but if we raise £500m it will be higher than that.

I agree if you don't try you won't know but I have a nagging doubt about it.
The TV money doesn't go direct to the club though but the distribution via Sky - so having more people watch on TV won't directly increase our revenue surely (at least until the TV deal is renegotiated). So with the interest payments to service they need gate revenue (although obviously season tickets will already have been bought and so there is limited effectiveness in this approach from that point of view).

I do however agree with the point that a fan based takeover attempt would only emphasise the value of Liverpool FC and like you have doubts about the whole thing.

As you say season ticket money is already banked, so no problem if they don't turn up. I think we have 25,000 season tickets, leaving approx 20,000 tickets for each game. 3,000 of those go to away fans who won't boycott a game. That leaves 17,000 which equates to £600-700,000 per game. That assumes a 100% boycott, which won't happen.

As you say TV money won't be affected and I doubt coprorate sponsorship revenue would be damaged as a boycott would only increase the media interest in all things Liverpool.

Might as well paint the other side of the picture for those who believe a boycott of the games will cause Hicks to cash in after 1-2 games.

You can look to other mutuals and co-operatives to see that it could work i.e. The Co-op for one.

The legal framework has to be right from the off or people won't buy into it.

Why would any brand want to be associated with all the negativity that increased publicity would bring?

None of Utd's sponsors were scared off with the fuss over the Glazer's buying them.

To start with I was weary of this idea but the thought of the club in the supporters hands does appeal to me. I'm going to put my name in the hat but there is no way in hell I cant afford 5000 quid so I am thinking at the moment I'll be getting some part shares once they figure out how that bit can be done.

Sounds daft but the real problem I have is that I am reluctant to spend the money when there are other things in the world that are more deserving of my cash from a moral point of view. Cancer research, Alzheimers, the homeless , national adoption agencies etc . I am weary about giving my money to people who have employees that are paid tens of thousands of pounds each week.

I'd like to see some of those players putting a months wages in to the pot to help get this thing started. Would ease my conscience a little.

Excellent suggestion Jim,Prove you really love the club lads by helping give it back to the people. The line"there's nothing we can do about what goes on off the field" has been trotted out a bit recently, well now there is something they can do

It couldnt hurt to ask them and I think a lot of fans who might be a bit weary of the idea might be encouraged by seeing the players putting 50000 of thier onw money in the pot.

How about the members of est get together and pledge money themselves to see how many shares we could all buy. I would be willing to put in some for that. With over 4000 members, if everyone could put in on average £10 each that could raise £40,000 which would mean 8 shares.
If there are plenty of group shares arranged this idea is more than possible.

There's a limit of one share per member. Therefore est would be 1 member and only allowed to have 1 share

You could set up eight different member groups

                            est south, est usa
